Hi, could anyone let me know what the compression should be on a type r 92 import and also where i would find the engine number please. Also i know this is the wrong question for this section but i am after a second hand aftermarket exhaust and also some advise on where to buy body kits, wings, spoiler lips etc. Loads of questions i know but thanks in advance.

Hi m8,

ok... here we go with technical stuff..... ;)

The compression on the rotary should be:

poor means under 7 <-- the engine will not run on FD with 6 or under 6.
good means 7 to 8
very good is everything above 8.

A few months back I did enquire from Tim at rxmotors about what normal compression is on new engines, good engines with 35,000 miles, and bad engines suffering with with hot/cold startup issues due to low compression. Tim\'s reply was that rebuilt engines have around mid 8\'s, a good engine with approx 35k on the clock would have 7 approx 100 psi and low compression engine 5\'s. I did ask some detailed questions on this, but I was advised that an engine with 7.0 7.0 7.0 on front & rear rotor is in good condition and should deliver a good 30,000 more miles no problem. Also he said the numbers are more important that they are even compared to being high.

Brian, you are right.

more important are the numbers. My last engine has had something about 7.3, 7.5, 7.5 on front and about 7.2, 7.3, 7.4 on rear. The engine was about 55k miles old and was running very well.

Also important is the way you check the compression. Do you make it on cold or hot engine, what RPM are you going. This 2 points can influence the values.
