Hi Guys

After four days of Rex ownership i have my first major problem.

Went into town this morning, everything was fine, car idling on 1000 rpm, (sometimes it hunts for the idle for about 6-7 seconds between 1000 - 1300rpm before settling).

Car was parked for about 1 hour, had a new key cut which i used to start her, fired up no problems but for some reason the idling revs were really high between 2000 - 24000rpm (baring in mind it had only done this since using the new key to start her up and never before with the original key) thought maybe could just be because cold as we\'ve gale force winds here today and is extremely cold. So drove home, about a 10 minute drive, took it steady with revs playing up at idle or when clutched depressed.

When i finally parked up, i couldn\'t get the bloomin key out of the ignition barrel, as wouldn\'t push in at the acc position to turn to lock to pull key out.  Took ages of fiddling about with turning the key fwd so dash lights came on and back and pushing in and wiggling to finally get the key out.  Came into house, got original key, went back out, tried to start her up and nothing, doesn\'t even sound like she\'s trying to turn over :(

My question is...... could i have flooded the engine messing about trying to get the new key out or could it be something else completely???

Hmmmm,

Do you have an alarm on the car???

I ask as sometimes when you turn the key too many times it acts as a immobiliser on some alarms disarming the car???

No Alarm, not till monday anyway!!!!

Not unless there\'s a factory fitted one!!!

So not sure what problem is!!

Try checking some of the simpler things before you panic dude, a while ago my car wouldn\'t start or turn over!!! was just loose connection on the battery???

Put the key in and then turn first 2 clicks and then toggle the battery connections around to see if you get any sign of life??? Wear gloves too :)

Have just tried to start again. When i turn the key fully round there is a faint buzzing noise, not sure if thats the car trying to turn over or not. Just trying to get hold of one of my mates to see if i can tow start her. Will go check connections now, but all dash warning lights come on nice and bright, so i\'m thinking battery is ok, but not gonna rule anything out!

A flooded engine will still turn over. Sounds like the starter has jammed.
Put it in gear (3rd or whatever) and with the handbrake off rock the car back and forward a bit. Then put it into neutral and try again. It might work - it has for me before on another car.

You sure its not just a loose earth on the starter motor?, if you haven\'t got an additional earthing kit (could have seeing the spec) you could try and attach another earth strap from the gear box to the chassis or chassis strut braces. Also check your battery to make sure it isn\'t that before you fork out for a new starter motor.

Good luck sorting it,

Paul:)

Cheers for that Paul,

When tried to start it earlier, was trying with jump leads connected to battery still with no joy. When you try and turn it over nothing happens at all! Mechanic said was def starter motor, unfortunately car is so low, cant get underneath to have a proper look, and haven\'t got a decent jack, or something low enough to get underneath to raise it!

So gonna hopefully get a second hand starter motor from somewhere, try that and hopefully once replaced will work. Just hoping not to have her off the road for ages as i\'ve only had her 4 days :( :( :(
