Will i require an aftermarket boost controller to prevent boost spikes.

It depends on your other mods.

If you have a downpipe and backbox fitted you could get boost spikes. I know I did.

The later cars with the 16bit ECU\'s were able to deal it it a bit better, but they even suffer in the cold.

It might be worth getting something like the Profec B controller.

I will have
intake
under drive pulleys
cat back
( de cat )
apexi pfc
My saviour may be the stock down pipe then.
cheers

Unless its a UK model, that would be a free flowing downpipe. OK not as free flowing as a 3 inch pipe, but would could still suffer with spikes.

The Apexi PFC will be able to control it up to a point, but struggles after that.

I\'m just about to get a PFC and full 3" exhaust fitted.  I\'ve already got Apex-i induction so quite free flowing.  It\'s on a \'92 with a standard (non-ported) engine.  I spoke to the guy who\'s doing it who didn\'t seem to think there\'d be a problem with boost spike, a lot of it is down to the fuel map so I believe.

I know that im going to sound really stupid but im not sure that i understand boost spike  I know that too much boost without correct fueling will run it lean and pink, but how can you tell when the engine has a spike? Will my car be alright as it is standard apart from a hks downpipe to remove the first cat, cheers.
