Ive hovering round here a few months now getting info on 3rd gen rexes because ive wanted one for about 5 years now!
I still worried tho that an fd will drain my pockets on a regular basis?
Will it really be that costly even tho it will only be used for pleasure and wont be a daily drive?(prob only do 4k a year)

I am really into the shape of the turbo 2 now as well so would this be cheaper to run? Are the mpg figures just as bad?
Will have about 8k to spend on a car so that is a fd and a few mods or an Fc and stacks of mods! :cool

Sorry for the torrent of questions!

Many thanks Iain

Hi Mate
Having owned both as many here on this forum have, i am sure they will agree they are two completely different cars in my opinion.

If you have £8k to spend, that should buy you are very nice FD with a rebuilt engine, which should in turn mean trouble free motoring, if not, buy a FD that needs or is close to a rebuild and when rebuilt youll generally get 12 months warranty.
OR!
You could spend the money on a heavily modded FC but then you will loose some of the relaibility.

or you could buy an fc and put an fd engine in it like me.
its easy.

TBH I used to own an fto and used it as a daily runner. It cost me a hell of alot more than owning the FD and a deisel Run around. If your able to get classic insurance and are happy to do the daily grind in a little deisel then it will cost less than the clio. Plus you will never get bored of jumping in and taking it out.

How good is the clio on mpg ???

It means at least now i can feel like im able to mod my fd without too much hassle in the bank dept.

Shaunwil...the clio is very good on fuel....I usually get 35 mpg from it even tho its a 2 litre!
Arnt ftos good on fuel?
I guess if the rex is only doing 4k a year it shouldnt be that costly? Its not the rebuilds that is the problem its all the other problems...and the 14 mpg!.
I should take the plunge really at go for the 3rd gen as it is my dream car!

you only live once - buy and FD and worry about it later

The fto was reasonable to run, about the same as your clio. However i got through about 40 quid a week in fuel just going to work and it wasn\'t giving me any pleasure. Where as now it cost me 30quid a month fuel in my diesel 106 without worring about a boring drive every day.

Plus if im skint i can stop worring about the fuel bill and not drive the fd too much. Yes the fd drinks fuel for fun, but its fantastic every mile, especially the looks even a standard one gets. They sound fantastic and drive amazing.

The main bonus is the insurance bill, for me at 25 (now 26) i can have an rx7 and a runaround for about 660quid a year fully comp on both. The Fto was 960 pa on its own !

With such a good support from the club i would say get the FD, makes the most sense. Best club i\'ve been part of.

Big differences between the two, The FC is more of a grand tourer, capable all the same but not as raw as the FD.
I have to say the FD is the closest Jap car to a TVR I\'ve driven in terms of performance, but that does have its own draw backs, I\'ve found that I cant \'relax\' in the FD its a car that requires your full attention 95% of the time.  Whereas the FC tends to be a little bit more forgiving.
But, if your going to mod the hell out of the FC anyway, you might be better off giving an importer a call and asking them to have a look for a nicely modded FC for you?
