3rd Generation\'s

Hi, i am about to buy a 3rd Generation RX7, it will be an import, i know i have to watch out with these. My main problem is, is there any way i can tell the differnece between the different variants.i.e the type r, type s etc etc. Is there any coding stamped anywhere or will be a matter of bodywork, interior layout. Please please help and get me into one of these wicked cars.
