Hi!

I need to replace my battery, but am unsure if the Mazda stereo that is in the car has a security feature. I am presuming it has - but may be wrong?

Any idea how to check if it does, and if so, either how to record the security number or to change it to one I know and can remember?!

I ask, because I do not want to change the battery, then find that the unit has gone into "security mode", because it thinks it been nicked!

Pictures attached of the unit. Since it is a Mazda item, I presume someone somewherre must have something similar or the same?

Cheers,
Andrew

not sure if you can check

if its a UK car - then phone mazda with the chassis number and they will beable to tell you the code

this is based on 2 things

1 - its a uk car
2 - its a factory fitted mazda radio

hope this helps

thanks

Cheers,

Forgot to say in the original post, its a Jap import. It is also a factory fitted Mazda unit. I have the owners manual, but ..... you\'ve guessed it......its in Japanese! It pictures the unit, so it is definately a Mazda job.

Hi Andrew,

According to this removal procedure, it doesn\'t look like the radio has a code.  This is referring to a US Miata but they are fitted with the same stereos.

Here is a link detailing all the different models fitted to the Mazdas (including the Bose units).

Hope it helps.

Cheers Mark.

I guess you never took the battery off during the time you had the car?

Hmmm...thinking about it, do you reckon the immobiliser fitters would have disconnected the battery to fit the immobiliser? Suppose they should have?

I\'ve looked through the bits of paper that you gave me with the car, and there is no obvious instructions for security code input, so I am guessing that this particular unit is not fitted with this feature.

Looks like I\'m just going to have to take a chance!!

Car is working real nice, by the way. Fiiters, oil and plugs seemed to have helped! At least it has got rid of the plumes of smoke it had, on start-up! Took a mate out in it a few days ago, he runs a Yamaha R6 sports bike.....he seemed well impressed with the turn of speed it had! Obviously no where near as quick as his bike, but he was certainly chuckling to himself as my foot got planted!!

How is your project coming along??

Hi Andrew,

Mine is getting there slowly!!  Will have to send you some pics.  Apologies for being a retard, I had the battery off loads of times!  There is definately no code!

Glad the plugs etc have improved its performance somewhat!

Pics would definately be of interest!

If it\'s just a change of battery and you don\'t find out about codes, how about a set of jump leads connected to the terminals of your battery  to another car or battery while you change the one on the car to keep a feed going to your radio/ alarm.

Cheers. Had thought about that, but I now know it isn\'t security coded, so no problems about changing the battery now!
