Is it possible to have around 400bhp and still a mild fuel consumption from an FD? And whats the best way/easiest way to get to 400bhp? (I\'ve already uprated the intake(HKS intake) and exhaust(A\'PEXi N1 dual))

Steve Burnett

For that sort of power you\'ll be needing a lot done.
New ECU, downpipe, cat removed, possible porting of the engine, new intercooler, new radiator, single turbo (which will result in needing a new induction kit).
This is in no order nor is it a complete list as im no expert.

There are a lot of people on this site that will probably be able to give you really good advice as they have done this themselves.
My list is just to give you some sort of idea of the work involved.

Shaq

i am aiming for about 340 bhp with the following it may give you some idea :

3" downpipe/midpipe
APexi power FC with Boostkit
Front Mount IC with Koyo Rad
Greddy pulley kit
1200cc injectors
walbro Fuel pump
boost set to 1 bar

I see, this certainly gives some indication. However, how much does my fuel consumption increase, with 1200cc injectors? \'Cause that\'s the main reason whats holding me back to just go powerhungry..

Shaq

I have all those bit s sitting at home waiting to be installed except for the 1200 s so i couldnt tell you what the fuel will be like cant imagine it will drop by much prob get 5mpg instead of 12mpg ! LOL

If you are concerned about fuel I don’t think you should modify it unless you get another car i.e. a diesel or something.

But then again I have heard that when people had their Power FC mapped they fuel consumption was a lot better?

I think it also depends on what level you want to modify to?
What do plan on doing?

I have 1300cc secondaries and its mapped to a apexi with FMIC non sequential high flow turbos and to be honest my fuel consumption is slightly better than it was before the work was done, but as it was the usual FD consuption to begin with its still terrible compared to any other car i have driven, however none of them came close to the driving sensation.

Go for it mate, its only fuel, fuel destroys the planet, the americans voted bush back in and he will do it before fuel does so what the hell... ;) sorry got a bit political their....anyway as i was saying go for it mate, if you are going to spend all that money doing what difference will the fuel bill make? :D

Hi mate,

Got the 1300cc from Pip @ WGT, on an exchange basis, there was a thread about it not to long ago as i believe there are other sources as well.

Cheers

If you\'re going to find the cash to do the mods to get 400bhp the right way then fuel consumption is the least of your worries...

Big expenses are:

Single tubby - 2k+
FMIC/V-Mount IC  - 1.5k
ECU and mapping - 1k
Fuelling/exhause, etc - 1.5k

so prolly 6k all in but that\'d be capable of doing more than 400...  Seems as though going reliably above late 300bhp doesn\'t make too much difference between going for late 400bhp in terms of cost.

some always used to say on the scooby boards you can only choose 2 of the following 3 options:

    FAST
    CHEAP
    RELIABLE

seems to be so true thou.......http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008_ZS\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_7_11v.gif\' border=0>

Am i right in saying with twins you are looking to get around 360bhp max??? thats without going crazy price wise:rolleyes:

This surely helps :) I Guess that the fuel bill doesn\'t matter much after spending 6k on parts. :D btw whats the difference between the primary and secondary injectors? (n00b :D)

I would say that\'s a fair comment. I am taking the twins as far as I\'d dare, and I\'m running 307 rwhp, 370 ish flywheel. That with 1300 secondaries, front mount, full exhaust, blah blah blah! My fuel consumption definately got better after proper mapping of the ECU. Plus I can just lower the boost for pootling around town, that help a little too.

Both are side feed, primary are 550cc, secondaries are 850cc.
