hi all,
the rear near side is banging/rattling like a gud\'un, ive had the shock out and all seems fine(as far as i can tell), there doesnt seem much movement in the bushes but im told the wear on them is hard to detect anyhow,

Any past experiances of the same ilk???

Solutions???

its a 94 by the way

thanks.
Getting old... Its not like it was in my day!

Same here mate, gets a real thump in the back on a bad bit, i think the only thing to do is complete a set of bushes. With mine in the air the nearside is really movin round, offside dont seem so bad.
The same tyre is on its way out to, maybe the torque hits this side first (poss.) Ive been told main dealers do them so a another little job for the winter.

changing all of the bushes seems a bit harsh, on the rear thats 7 bushes at about 50 quid a go as far as i can work out??
or do you refer to specific ones???

Can see what your saying, as im new to this FD thing myself i was going for the whole hog, \'if your going to do it, do it right\' sort of thing.

Maybe anyone else out there could help before we get our hands dirty???????????

Sounds like it may well be some of the rear bushes. They do eventually go, and you hear a kind of chattering over rough roads. Depending on which ones have worn, you may even hear a knock when you accelerate or brake, to.

As you say, around 55 quid each, around half a dozen per side - alot of cash! My old one (92 - before I sold it) had been banging for a few years, and it was flagged up at the MOT as worn bearings. Put the car up on jacks, and could clearly feel that 2 had gone on each side - a big one on the upper wishbone where it attached to the hub and a smaller one on the end of the toe control arm, again where it attached to the hub. Could feel the top one loose where lifting the hub/disc vertically, and could see the movement in the toe control arm when moving the hub/disc horizintally.

I would say, I enjoy having a go at things myself. But these are complete b\'stards to get out - you will need a strong press to do it. I gave up eventually, thinking £250 quid for a garage to do it is better than knackering a wishbone or hub etc!

As it turned out, I did only need to replace these 4, and the knocking was sorted.

Obviosuly this is only my experience, your knocking could be something esle all together, or maybe more or less bushes gone. I took the gamble of only 4 gone, and it paid off!

Cheers,
Andrew

I came across a site where the bloke was using a large bolt, washers and ratchet sockets to pull the bushes out. Fine idea, and of course ( ) it worked for him......I don\'t have access to a press, so thought "I\'d give it a go"!. Waste of time! The bushes did not budge at all! Had a go though, so thought it far wiser to pay a garage to do them.

I also soaked all the nuts/bolts I could find in WD40 for about 2 or 3 days before I had a go. Not sure if it helped, but when the garage came to do the work properly, they did comment that there was only 1 that was tough to get off. Bearing in mind it was a 12 year old UK car (salt etc!!), the soaking might have helped somewhat!

I see you\'re in Northants. Actually in Northampton? If you\'re not aware (and if you are, ignore!), but there is yet another forum, set up for Jap cars in Northants:

Not tremendously busy, but it is growing.

Ah-ha!! Forum disguises! :D

No idea about the rally route  , but yes, missed you at Pod. You parked up next to me, but had 4 or 5 people round you before I could introduce myself! Hung around for a while, but thought you were in for a long session - so wondered off to look around!

Unfortunatley, the bushes are Mazda only. Therefore you need to go to any Mazda dealer :(  !!

Since they are so expensive, might be worth seeing if you can find out which ones are actually worn? 12 (or 14) in total, so alot of money to spend replacing all if you don\'t need to!

Cheers,
Andrew
