Hi,

I\'ve been looking for an Apex\'i Power FC & Commander. From browsing through previous threads it seems that Taka Kaira are the cheapest around. However I have seen a few even cheaper used models which I am possibly looking at getting, although I\'m a little confused about what I need...

There are a few websites about that have conflicting information about which model to use for which year of RX-7. According to a thread on here there are just two models for RX-7\'s; one for 91/Dec - 96/Jan and one for 96/Feb - 02. Can anyone confirm this is right?

The Apex\'i USA website states in their \'application chart\'; part number 414-Z004 for 93-95 RX-7. (http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_fc_applications.asp). So where does my 92 RX-7 fit into their application chart?!?

Lastly, if I buy from the U.S. is there any danger of picking up a U.S. spec. Power FC that won\'t work on my Jap spec. RX-7, or aren\'t they made like that?

If anyone can help clear up my confusion I would be very grateful.:)  Also, if anyone has a 92 RX-7 with a Power FC, could they please confirm the model no. or serial no. - that would be grate too.

Thanks,

Jon

hi there another jon here sorry cannot help to much with your question but i do think you are almost there with your info that there are two types of apexi power fc with the particular years that you have mentioned.

Also i was under the belief that the difference\'s in the power fc\'s is that the earlier one is 16 bit and the later one is 32 bit.

Finally have i read right that you are getting them cheaper elsewhere if so would be surprised not that am trying to be funny but where.

Yes, as long as u dont get stung for duty and vat etc.

There are 3, <12/95 (the 8-bit cars), 1/96-12/98 and 1/99->

The Apex\'i USA website states in their \'application chart\'; part number 414-Z004 for 93-95 RX-7. (http://www.apexi-usa.com/electronics_fc_applications.asp). So where does my 92 RX-7 fit into their application chart?!?
FD was sold in the US between 93-95; if u look at US websites u kind of have to expect them to refer to US cars!

Lastly, if I buy from the U.S. is there any danger of picking up a U.S. spec. Power FC that won\'t work on my Jap spec. RX-7, or aren\'t they made like that?
I doubt it but couldnt say for sure; I think you have to play about to fit a Jap Power FC to a US cars loom - and some US sites say their PFC\'s are ready to plug in - which suggests they have been customised some how?? pays your money and takes your chances...

8-bit cars need part # 414 Z004

There are three models of Apexi pfc, the two you mention plus a 98/12->2002 model.

The 3rd gen was first sold in Japan in \'92, by the time it was sold in the US it was a 93 model and stopped being sold in the US in 95, hence the 93->95 you will see on US sites.  An Apexi pfc described on a US site as 93->95 will work fine on a jap 92 car.

At this moment in time Tak seem to be the cheapest,  I got mine for 540ish, to my door.  They marked the value down so i didn\'t get taxed, I\'d assume they would do the same for anyone else.  Not sure how long this offer will last for.  Least this way you know you will get the right one!

Cheers

just be aware that if they mark the value down when they send the parts, if the item get lost or damaged then you will only get the insured value, probably half of original price.

just beware thats all

hotstepper1973 - I\'m not \'getting them cheaper\' as such. I willing to buy a used unit so I\'m expecting/hoping to get one slightly less than a new unit. Not sure how possible that would be since Tak seem to be a hell of a lot cheaper than other retailers - they almost seem like second-hand prices!

20B_Boy - thanks for the info mate, much appreciated! ;)  I did wonder why so many sites listed the RX-7 as 93-95. I didn\'t realise there were three versions of the PFC, thanks for pointing that out and for confirming the correct part number for what I need.

Kevint - thanks for posting mate. If two people post the same info then it\'s all that more reasuring (not that I doubt 20B_Boy\'s info at all).

Adam - thanks for the advice mate. If I do go down the route of using Tak (which is likely) I\'ll be sure to tell them I\'m keen to avoid the Duty.

Cheers, and thanks all.

How much do you have to mark things down by to avoid the duty? Maybe I should fire off an e-mail to enquiries@inlandrevenue.gov.uk  :rollin :rollin

hotstepper1973

when i bought mine off them they automatacily reduced the value for you mine is on its way should be here for weekend

anything above the value £20 will need to be taxed even it stated as a gift or sample. Unless of course they dont spot it then you are fine...

I take it Power FC\'s come with a wiring loom/harness that attaches in place of the standard ECU?  Or does the stanard ECU plug fit the Power FC?

I should be getting a car with a Power FC attached tomorrow and i\'ll be removing it so planning a head whats needed to return it to a standard ECU...

Adam

Yep...it\'s just a plug and play item....  loom does not need changing....  Why go back to standard out of interest...plus do you need a standard ecu as i have one from a 1994 FD  :)

Removing it because my insurance insists it.  I\'m only 24 and to get insurance for under a grand (i\'ve got it for £663) on an import they want it standard bar styling.  Hence i\'m removing the Power Fc and returning it to a standard ECU.

I think i\'ve got one sorted but if that falls thro, i\'d be happy to take it for £35 inc delivery (thats what the guy i\'m buying it off wants for it, £30 ex post).
