.i have a 92 FD  and i am currently doing the rats nest..after much scraped knuckles and headbanging i finally got it out but broke a check valve. I have noticed that most of my check valves are either hard to blow through or you can blow through them both ways so i will be needing some new ones. The question i am asking is.. should it be easy to blow through them and what is the difference between the smaller one and the larger one? also does anyone know any details about the stock check valves (psi pressure, cracking ?? WHAT IS CRACKING PRESSURE?? and would any valve do? i am having a right mission to get hold of any and it is the only thing stopping me getting my pride+joy back on the road..also does anyone know where i can get some at a reasonable price (not the £25 mazda charge) and what is the average temperature when warmed up under the bonnet of an FD?

any answers would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

£25 each?! Holy shiznit! I know you can get aftermarket check-valves for not much ££, but there was an interesting thread started on the rx7club forum about the factory check valves having filters in them to prevent shit (like oil from the turbos) from getting into the solenoids/actuators. Obviously cheapo aftermarket ones probably wouldn\'t have these filters in them.

Had my "cheapo aftermarket" ones in for a year now with no problems so far (touch wood) ;)

where did you get them from mate?..i cant seem to find anyone who does them

Found them at my local motor factors in the "windscreen squirter section" funnily enough.  A couple of quid each IIRC.  I bought them as a quick fix as i broke a couple doing the UIM gaskets, but as ive said they have worked fine for a year now...:)

your not talking about the shitty little transparent ones like those in halfords are you..for about £2? if you are then fair play for getting them to last that long and i wish you every luck in the future!! i ended up going to a japanese breakers yard and getting some off various cars..nissan,honda and an FD they are all different sizes but as far as i know they all do the same job..the only thing special about the mazda ones are the heat resistance factor and the little air filters that i have heard are inside the maxda OEM`s

No they are shitty little black plastic ones.  I was concerned about the heat under the hood making them brittle at the time, but the car has done a couple of track days this summer with no ill effects.  I do intend to replace them eventually...
