Is it fine for me to remove the Cat from my 92 Twin Turbo?  I think It got damaged on a speed bump (although it may just be the cover) and I was thinking of fitting a straight through stainless pipe in its place.  I dont even get emission tested at M.O.T. as the cars a pre 93 so I\'m assuming there are no other problems?  Can\'t I remove a pump from the engine bay if I get rid of the cat too (scuse me ignorance squire!)??  Anyone recommend a good place to go to get a replacement pipe or have one made pretty cheap?

cheers.  :D

Have you got an uprated http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/3/3_8_3.gif\' border=0> aftermarket ECU so it dont risk running lean thou?

you may be able to remove the cat IF it was manufactured before a certain date (June 1992??)  but you will still need to pass an emissions test without it. The only cars that are exempt from emission test are pre 70 somthing piston engines and pre \'86 rotaries.  I wouldn\'t count on a freindly MOT station either as they will be going on the computerised system soon.

Hmm, nope, no uprated ecu yet.  So do you suggest simply searching the breakers for a replacement cat or is there a recommended aftermarket item I should be after (sports cat etc.)???

I removed my Cat about 6 months ago (smashed it out with a long metal bar).

I am still running with the standard ECU and compensated for the increase in boost gutting the cat made, by backing off the boost on my manual controllers (dawes devices).

You have to keep the airpump on the car with the standard ECU or it "messes up the idle" (Pip @ WGT).

think i\'d rather go way of ECU thou even if it ment selling my botty lol
Technically removing a cat from an exhaust via broom technique will make it illegal from a noise point of view as i understand the BS that is the law your not allowed to modify an exhaust which will make it louder even if it is still quieter than many standard big boys & such like, stupid http://www.smileycentral.com/?partner=ZSzeb008\' target=\'_blank\'>http://smileys.smileycentral.com/cat/23/23_4_158.gif\' border=0> i know but worth being aware of just incase......Otherwise is a good (AKA cheap) way for a decat i suppose but as i say i\'d still prefer the ECU/fuelling thing rather than just boost control surely it\'s still breathing better (AKA leaner) even at lower boost?

I thought about the de-cat for a while, but as the cat had collapsed i had no choice in the end.  As far as running lean even if the boost is backed off, i don\'t know...  surely the same amount of air is running through the engine?

Funnily enough, the car is no louder de-catted...

I set the boost back at 10 psi and it has run faultlessly for 6 months since doing it.

Strange, mine sounds like a le-mans racer since I put the de-cat pipe on :D :D

Have you changed rest of exhaust system or just the cat

jonrx7uk

I just smashed the cat out (i e empty box remains).  The rest of the exhaust is standard (so far;) )
