Over a decade ahead of the DeLorean DMC12 and with a much higher shine, Mazda appears to have made a one-off stainless steel Rx-2 Coupé!   Watch from 2 mins 25 seconds in video below. :love4:
Bonnet and lights front and rear suggest Japanese 1972 MY. My Japanese is practically non-existent, but Tokyo Motor Show 1971 flashes past in the video below and the words "rotary" and "stainless car" are distinct enough. Anybody on the forum know any more about this wonder?

Thanks! Not that simple to discover! What manufacturer is more discreet about their great achievements than Toyo Kogyo? They win the LeMans 24 hours. Do they brag? Do they even use the victory in advertising? No, they just move on. The RX500? Well, it was recently restored (and showed at Goodwood). Before that it appeared on three motor shows in 1970 wearing three different colours (yellow, green, silver). Did Toyo Kogyo brag about it reaching 240 km/h on a tiny single rotor engine? Nope. You can go on and on: 1981 Spa 24 hours and then this: The stainless car 10 years before that over-inflated flop that was DeLorean. Is it proudly displayed in the Hiroshima Mazda Museum? Afraid not (currently no Rx2 there!). Do they brag, do they even hint at it? Nope.

And is it any way to find any pics from the 18th Tokyo Motor Show online, some pics that actually show the cars on display? Be my guest and try! Even the Tokyo Motor Show's own website has useless historic photos. And their text claims Mazda allegedly showed their Rx-510 with huge massive bumpers [sic!] that year.  :dontknow:

That obscure lttle video has another few gems, such as the 12A-powered Chantez that reached 240 km/h and a W-12 engine. Blimey!  ;D
