RX8 FUEL POT CUT UP.

So today i decided to cut open a spare rx8 fuel pot chamber.

this is the chamber that surrounds the fuel pump and has 2 ports fuel in from the pump. fuel out to top of the pot and onto injectors.
and a mouldingin that houses the 4 bar pressure regulator and then onto the syphon.

So i cut it open to find a very dirty filter on both sides of the filter....

i believe these are crudding up as these car now gets some age and mileage on them.

Interestingly the filter had a multilayer at the top and by picking apart i believe is a post filter from fuel pump as inlet and out ports feed via these layers.....i maybe be wrong but thats what it looks like to me.....so full pump pressure in....reg vents off at 4bar and that going though syphon unit (venturi pulls fuel over from saddle tank. 4bar fuel to outlet port.

So intheory by bridging inlet and outlet port you bypass the cruddy filter and the differential pressure drops and the pump is no longer working its socks off...
but the pot is still pressured and the reg will maintain 4 bar and you install an systec inline filter in your engine bay that cant be routinely cleaned.

may set 1 of my many spares up like this and see how it performs.

interesting !!! I am selling a unit on eBay thats only done around 300 miles less than 30 hours  ???running brand new from mazda I had to up date mine with a new unit which Clive set up for me with a better pump inserted into the unit wish I know this before I bought the unit from Mazda last december it would of save me almost £400.00  second hand one go for nothing mine was listed for a third of the original price now its down to less than that.

Been debating for a while about putting a stock pump back in the race car as it only acts as a lift pump up to the swirl pot to feed the Bosch 044.

This way I will cut down the  current draw

I had to destroy it to see the layers at the top. I more a scientific test would be 2 gauges either side to measure the press drop with reg capped. This 1 on mine was taking an age to prime on first click off ign. I usually give it 3 primes before starting...
In your scenario i be keeping new pot assembly and if when you do have a prob put the walbro in the new pot.
Im so glad i got a fuel press gauge at the injectors so i could see whats going on....also if this filters clogged more time to start car whilst its building press...im having a play with another spare i have tomoz.

This is just the idea that's been suggested on the RX-8OC as a possible solution to the fuel cut issues, theory being it's clogged donut filters which might be the issue.

I's be very interested to see what happens if you bypass that filter and use a regular in-line one, as you suggested.
