Hi guys,

Sorry if this has already been covered one million times before. I did search but wanted to ask for myself.

My RX-7 is due to arrive from Japan soon and I'm having problems choosing the best method for installing a rear fog light. I was hoping you could help me choose the best way.

I wanted to convert 2 of the rear lights but after research I don't think that's going to pass MOT due to them not being 100mm away from the stop lights. I'd rather not use one of my reversing lights if possible because I think 1 reverse light doesn't look the best and I'll lose visibility when reversing in the dark. I also don't want to have one fitted to the bottom of the bumper because that looks bad...

What have you done with your cars? Please give me some advice. Thanks!

My old fd had a reverse light converted but that was a few years back now so if mot rules have change an extra light maybe the only option. However lighting technology has moved on some what and the horrible square red light hanging off the bumper of an import is defo not nice. There are tiny leds you can now get that that would not notice atall until used and ive seen some people using the fog light of an rx8 its rotor shaped and modern looking.

Bulb technology has come a long way since FD lighting was designed. I swapped a reverse bulb for an LED RED bulb off the 'Bay that starts with an E' and put a white LED bulb in my remaining reverse light.
I accept one bulb will not emit the same light as two, but the LED bulbs are an improvement over the standard bulbs.

It may be a temp option until you can find a design option.

Yeah I was thinking about the RX8 fog light. Did they cut the rear bumper to fit it, or have it just below? Any pics or details about wiring one up would be great?! I have a spare front fog switch, would it be easy to connect up? I'm not very good with electronics...

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll look at the RX8 fog light option. If not, I'll do the reverse light and buy some LEDs. As you say, an LED reverse light would be much brighter.

Hopefully someone adds to this conversation with a full tutorial on fitting the RX8 fog light!  :)

Hopefully you'll see the pictures, I bought a cheap square fog light, used the original reflector as a template, cut the shape out of the reflector and with a bit of silicone to hold it together, it works a treat.

Thanks very much for that! Is it necessary to use a different reflector? Or could I just use a red bulb?

Is it possible to mount an RX-8 rear fog light in the bottom of the bumper? In the black plastic part? Haven't got my yet to check. Arrives on Sunday from Japan! :)
