Was helping a friend fixing his exhaust, when this suddenly appeared on the night sky, so with our amateur Canon EOS 500Ds and standard lenses, we managed to snap some decent pics :D

It may be a daft question, but what is the best time of year to see this from Scotland?

oyvindjs

Go to your local weather site down there and see if they have an aurora borealis radar showing you live how far down the lights go at any given time. We have that on a few norwegian sites. Shows you a map of europe, and a green line that constantly moves up and down and shows you where you see the lights :)

very dafty question.... for a english..;)

Normally the  BBC weather web/Grampian news will tell everyone when it\'s the best time\'s happen to see in Scotland> late Nov- early march.

Take a panic bucket and hot tea, away from the city light into cold dark countryside for a best viewing.
