After my accident i had on snow on the motorway made me feel paranoid when i drive it now as i did nothing n it just got spin out with a slash of snow.
I think i will continue modding my Rex n give it better traction with putting a new set of alloys n run wide tyres.

R34 Defo is going to cost a build if a Rebuilt, NSX parts are going to cost a bomb also.
Overall I\'ll keep my heart back to the RX7 ;)
to b honest m8 u should`nt b driving a rx7 in the snow/ice as it will slide all over the place without any notice or any rwd without traction control, snow is for 4wd cars.

I drove my FD up Devil\'s Dyke in Feb many years back - got halfway up and found it was snow and ice...  Eagle F1s on it and getting to the top was interesting but perfectly doable with some care.

Coming back down was damn scary.

Set of decent winter tyres and a very sensible right foot and respect of speed and it\'d be possible to survive a winter in an FD without issue.

I totally understand your feeling worried after the bump you had on the motorway.

The thing is, the wide tyres are the problem, going wider will make it worse.  The wider they are, the more they \'surf\' over the water or slush on the road.  Narrow tyres are much better in bad weather, will cut through the water to grip on the road.  If you hit standing water or slush at 70mph on wide, performance summer tyres, you\'re going to lose grip, 4wd or not.

It\'s a compromise, like many things.  A heavy car on narrow tyres will be better in bad weather, but a light car on wide ones will have more grip on a dry road.

If you\'re worried, I would get a set of narrower wheels with some all-season or winter tyres, and keep them on from November through to March.

     Tyre width conclusions
      The advantages of wider tyres:
  •         significantly shorter braking distance (on both dry and wet surfaces),
  •         better grip in curves.
The advantages of narrower tyres:
  •         decreased susceptibility to aquaplaning,
  •         increased driving comfort,
  •         lower noise level,
  •         lower price (of tyres and rims).

As far as the original question goes:
RX-7 1280kg 50/50 front:rear
R34 1560kg 55/45 front:rear
plus the RX-7 carries its weight lower and more centrally.

To me, a sports car is a car that is small, light and powerful.
The Skyline scores one out of three on this test; the RX-7 gets full marks.

I was waiting months for my T51R build to finish n just in that time was fine back up from WGT till it started snowing, my hands was sweating behind the wheel as i was all over the place n was at slow line but once it hit that slush then it went. Some people still don\'t believe me n think its because i drive to fast that i cos it but they don\'t seem to understand which annoys me.

Thanks for info, i actually thou the more wider the tyres are then the more traction u will get.

I fully agree with Samoth. I dont know what kind of winter tyres you guys have there, but they make a BIG differense...

Dunno about FD, but FB is very good at snow. Maybe one of the best rearwheel drive I have ever driven in snow. And when you think about age of that car...

Skylines (I have heard) are a bit handfull in snow. My work mate´s son had 550ps r33. He used it every day for a 1,5 years. He had to drop boost to 0, just because he was losing so many rear bumbers ;)
Power is nothing without control. Weight is enemy of performance, handling and braking.

I guess I shouldn\'t have been doing it on summer tyres for years then :2Rolleyes

Only issue I ever had was black ice and most cars are not happy on that.

I\'ve since started using winter tyres and they\'re awesome. Although some all-season tyres are fine.

re japi

Michelin and Nokia winter tyres are good. Others are crap... ;)

I ONCE WENT AROUND A ROUNDABOUT @ 20MPH & IT WENT SIDEWAYS ON A  SLIGHTLY FROSTY RD WHICH IS NO WAY AS SLIPPERY AS SNOW/ICE!
