rx8 231 rear housing cracked?

Just been down to get tyres...long story short....they got a 70k rx8 231 and came in running with oil leak....ended up being rear housing by oil feed hairline crack in the casting.....Expansion bottle looks like a mayonnaise explosion and cap has released. Not a lot of oil in it?  Water seals gone?  But what could crack housing? Apparently running sweet ?

At this time of year I would have suspected the cold weather how ever it\'s been mild most of the time,could it be a one off casting fault that\'s been slowly creeping and gone over a period  of time with stress, I think the only way you will find out is to strip it down:3Confused

I might see what theyll let it go for...as i have a spare engine ready to drop in....plus 2 servicable clutches.

Its that lovely met red colour.

Must have partially froze up prior....was running sweet apparently they tried to seal crack with chemical metal ! Guy took it away and came back fubar! engine caput now but i have me spare not the right time but i want 1!

Had a proper look ive got first dibs....Wanna see the history which is being dropped off. Got a shiny new starter motor and coils look newish. some paperwork suggesting hesitant after 4500....poss cat blocking. Mot til july tax just out.
Very tidy body work and interior....no water or oil in it !  

if history ok then gonna offer £350. Stick on driveway and forget til Westory finished and Astra sold.  Best place to "store" my spare engine?
