Speedo stopped working help

I was driving it hard the other day & all of a sudden it stopped working so I drove for a while to a petrol station & had a look underneath as the speedo cable had come off & was dragging on the rd, would I have lost a lot of oil & will I need to get a new cable or will old one fit back on?
