hi their im new to the rotary scene and have just picked up a fd last week. it was said to be 289wbhp with non sycn setup, apexi fillters, exhaust system, uprated rad, and apexi fc. the car let go two days after i got it.

im looking to have the fd as my drift car and would like to see 350/400bhp what would i need to do to see this? the engine need a rebuild so do i need a high spec of rebuild? is this engine going to get to hot when drifting? would i be better off with a sr,1jz,2jz engine? i did like the 13b while it worked.

thanks for all your help curtis

If you are drifting it a would suggest a v mount rad and intercooler setup, however just a FMIC would do the trick.

If you are having it rebuilt I would suggest get some porting done, street ported, as big as you can. Bigger is always better in my opinion:D you are going to need upgraded secondary injectors, 1680cc, with fuel rail, and a fuel pressure regulator preferably an aeromotive one.

Who are you getting to rebuild the engine? There are a few tuners out there, I go to Hayward rotary who is based in Newbury. And they will be able to advise you on what exactly to do and how much it will cost.

You will probably also need an updated clutch

What he said about Haywards rebuild, they built the motor in Darren McNamara\'s rotary powered AE86.  You could make your power goals with a Street Port and a decent single.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

thanks for your help. i have got a mount rad but still need fmic as yet. do i only need to upgrade the secondary injectors then? im with you on the bigger the better :0)

Yes injectors with a fuel pressure regulator. I would personally get a better clutch too. As your not after a huge amount of power the twin turbos should be just fine. If you went single turbo you would start spending a lot on other necessary parts to take the power.

Do you have a diff brace? I would get one to stop it juddering when accelerating and of course sliding.

HaywardRotary

For competition you would need more power than the twins can handle.
A decent single turbo with ported engine would be good, V mount intercooler and rad setup protect them from impact damage.
400hp would be the lowest power I would go for.
You will need a hydro handbrake too.
We have done a number of drift engine builds with good results, For example Pete Barber came 2nd in the European drift championship with one of our engines about 3 years ago.
The Dmac ae86 Corrolla has one of our engines in it.
Good useable power can be made from these engines with the right build and ancillaries.
