does anybody know if you can remove this lower part of the gear stick, or if its possible??

is there a special tool required for the job or should i just use all my force to unscrew it.

thanks.

Speedline Imports

The shifter is bolted in.  Remove the big rubber boot (4 x 10mm bolts)  then you will see the 3 x 10mm bolts that hold the shifter into the box.

Undo the rubber cover and you will see :) im actually amazed it still has the cover lol

What is the reason you are removing the short shifter anyway? You going back to OEM?

juniorbamf

sorry i just meant the chrome bit, only want to know if that bit can be removed, not the entire thing from the box.

Brett

Sadly not, it\'s a complete assembly.

ah i see,
would it be possible to get a different shifter that fits in place?

Brett

There are various kits available - it depends on what you are trying to achieve?

well i literally just want the bulky chrome bit out of the way really so that the gear knob will be lower down when fitted.

What you have there looks like a short shifter anyway as the OEM ones are black, that looks IDENTICAL to my short shifter:

Here it is fitted in my MX5 (they can fit in both)

It easily comes out - there will be a spacer on top of the OEM box which makes it a short shifter

Why do you want to remove it though? The gear gaiter goes over it, remove the rubber surround and take a photo of it, the short shifter does unscrew in 2 parts at the base:

Yeah just take some photos, the OEM gearstick is quite thin and is black, you will see if its the same as mine when you take off the rubber cover - also if you do take the actual gear lever out be careful of the mucky oil in there as you might be able to see on my photos lol

Brett

....don\'t think it\'s black in the EGi\'s?
