Gaz FD

Hello, my names Gary, i\'m 26yrs old and live about 30mins from Leeds.
I\'m hoping to start looking for an FD sometime in the near future. I\'ve been reading up as much as possible on this site as i\'ve never owned a rotary.
I currently own a MK2 Toyota MR2 turbo (had for nearly 3 yrs) running around 300bhp and i enjoy it, its good fun but in all honestly it needs a respray and i just don\'t think its worth it considering the value of the car. So i think im going to take this opportunity to sell it and look for an FD :Thumbs-up
Although my current car is modified I don\'t know a great deal about engines and turbo\'s and all the stuff that goes with them, I\'m one of those guys that has to pay for every job to be done as I don\'t have the tools and know how to do it.

I had a test drive in an FD before I bought my current car, i don\'t remember what year or model it was but it was a bit of a heap.. It was a dealer in Bradford for starters (not the best place for decent cars..) and the guy flooded the engine starting it up. I decided i probably in reality couldn\'t afford an FD at the time so went for an MR2.

Is there many from around the West Yorkshire area on the forum? I think i\'ve seen a couple of people with it as their location.

Sorry for the wall of text btw:Typing

Consider saving some emergency money they are at the end of the day very old high performance cars. When things go wrong I wouldn\'t think a back street garage would be any good with them. Will cost alot to run and maintain

Having said that I have had 3 now a NA and 2 twin turbos, always done everything myself and never had any major things go wrong however normally always have someting to \'keep an eye on\'

I would say go for it enjoy it but don\'t expect it to be like MR2 ownership.

PS wil be working back over in Bradford in the new year and will probably bring mine over there.(Personally wouldn\'t waste anytime looking at cars from Bradford, this is from my own experience of \'mint cars, Innit\')

Gaz FD

O certainly won\'t be buying from any car dealers in Bradford thats for sure, i\'d be willing to travel most places to find the right car.
My MR2 has cost me a fortune so far because I didn\'t shop around and ended up buying a complete dog, after a month the turbo needed rebuilding, I was lucky it didn\'t destroy the engine.
I\'m able to save some emergency money now thanks to a nice pay rise at work so at least I can be a bit prepared.
I\'m in no rush to sell my MR2 so i can have a really good look around for the right car. I use a van for work so the car is just for weekends so running costs aren\'t too much of a factor although I understand they\'ll still be greater than my MR2. Plus with winter round the corner there ain\'t much opportunity for good weekends out and about.

I\'ve used my fair share of back street garages with pervious cars and i\'ll never use them again, they don\'t know a thing. Is there any rx specialists around Yorkshire area?

Could I maybe come have a look at yours when your over this way? Would be good to have a look at a few in the flesh.

Haywood north is in doncaster I believe,  otherwise its wgt in northwich.

Look long and hard for the right car and be willing to walk after a 300mile viewing.  It will saving you money in the long run.

Mine has been my most reliable car to date.

Thanks, i don\'t mind a travel to have someone good to look at my car, the clowns i\'ve used before tend to create problems instead of solve them.

I learnt my lesson with my MR2, it was the first car i looked at, just fell in love straight away and didn\'t check it fully. The owner was on the MR2 forums but turned out he was a lying ****. He\'d been on the forums a number of years, when i bought it he left the forums and hasn\'t been seen since.

Im from Huddersfield, no longer have my FD but have a more serious RX4 in the build.

Is the garage you went to in Bradford over skipton way? A purple coloured FD? If so I think they\'re still trying to sell it.

Gaz FD

Nah it was yellow, the garage was close to the center of town, this nearly 3 yrs ago now.

Don`t get an fd unless you wanna spend more time with ya head under the bonnet than driving the f***in thing. Yeah ok the performance is good...when its working that is. Its no different to a high maintanence bird pain to live with but deep down you know your gonna get rid of it sooner or later.

Sometimes i wish i brought that bike instead now..

We\'ll finally i have sold my old car, a guy came over from Germany and has driven it all the way back!

Anyway wanted to ask if anyone that lives around West Yorkshire area would be willing to let me come have a look at their FD, (maybe take me for a little drive, i\'ll pay fuel of course)? Just thought it would be good to get more of a feel for them before i go looking to buy one. Been in a couple before but it was years ago.

If anyone would be so kind let me know and we\'ll try sort something.

Regards
Gary.

Bump? Anyone mind showing me their rx? Would just like an idea of what to go for, im undecided if i should go for a standard ish rx or go straight for a single turbo set up (which is what i\'ll be heading for in the future anyway)
