oh the joys of rx7 ownership just keep getting better and better :mad:

ok here goes! i took the car out for a quick spin today. i let the car warm up nicely all temps were ok but when i put my foot down a little i got hesitation around 3.5-4k and the car wouldnt rev cleanly and didnt boost past 5psi. i reduced the throttle and let the revs rise which they did past this point upto 6k but apply more throttle and it hesitates.

now heres the thing my car is running non seq twins, has new primary coil and a twinspark fitted, the plugs have done around 1000miles maximum, all injectors are recently cleaned and checked with 850\'s in the primary\'s done by reworx, a new bosch 044 was fitted in tank by me 2 weeks ago and im back to running the standard throttle body.

a week ago i was at reworx who adjusted the map for the injectors and ive traveled about 250miles since then with no problems. the only thing that has happened recently is the battery seems to be loosing charge and when i went to start it yesterday turned over a few times but didnt start. i put the battery on charge and started it today with no problems at all first turn with smooth idle and ran the engine upto nice working temp and thats when i took it for a spin and this happened. also the alternator is charging fine at 14volts so i dont think its a voltage issue.

am i missing something obvious here?? ive done the normal checks on connectors and vaccum pipes and can find none off or broken...

any suggestions??

i know this might sound a bit stupid but is the engine alternator etc ground back to the battery?

update:

replaced battery just incase, checked fuel pump wiring which is fine, cleaned alternator earthing just incase, replaced plugs, checked commander and could see no errors on voltages, disconected the twin spark.also vaccum is sitting at -390 on idle and over -450 slowing down off the throttle.

all this has made no difference at all. although i did drive it a little further and basicly small amount of throttle and feeding throttle on slowly seems to work with turbos boosting to 10 psi max but try to put anymore throttle on or put throttle on quickly and its just lots of hesitation and a few misfires as it tries to rev up. what i find really strange is at lower revs criving round off turbo its sweet as a nut and perfectley smooth its only as revs rise to 4k and you need a bit more throttle that this happens.

re worx reckons it sounds like an ignition issue but it had brand new coil 4 months ago unless its wiring to the coil.....anyone had issues with this??

any other ideas anyone?????

Ive got exactly the same problem, but my battery seems ok. Same hestiation areas and sometimes when i hit 6k it acts like it\'s stalling and slows down until i take my foot off the throttle. The 3k - 4.5k hesitation seems to get better the more it\'s driven but the first time it does it it\'s very noticable. Like to see some ideas on how to fix this...

Big Al

When this happened to my car I was told, correctly, that it was the ECU going into limp mode. I am definately no expert on these things, but it seems that if there is something the ECU can\'t cope with it shuts the engine down to minimum. I also had multiple backfires and no revs.

I took the car to Jason at Super7 and having scanned it he found a dodgy solenoid in the rats nest. When that was replaced the problem disappeared. So  my best advice would be to get your car to someone with a diagnostic scanner who can identify the problem for you.

i dont think the way this is driving that it\'s limp mode dont forget i dont have any of the solenoids that cause that sort of prob being non seq. also i am a mechanic just not in the trade anymore the joy of these forums is sometimes people have had exactley the same thing and can point you in the right direction, then i dont have to go through every check and test for ign, fueling, wiring etc in the works manual  :chat  not that im lazy....honest!!

as no one has come up with any other options i am going to take the uim off and start checking the loom to the coils and hope i can find a nice corroded connection i can fix nice and quickly  (fine chance of that :D )

cheers

well when u described it more i think i might have had the same problem before but my was fixed with a new air pump what happen to me is that the air pump has pack in and stopped spinning, so i put a new set of belts on then disconnected the pump the car ran fine for the first 30-40miles then it started to hesitate if that is the word. to me it felt like some 1 else has taken control of the throttle and clutch and no matter what you do you cant seem to stop it from doing this and it only goes away if you let go of the gas pedal, so how i came to know that is because the heat warming light will flash ever so slightly and it cured it self after i got the new pump on. so if its the same with you guys that still have a cat on the car check that out because it might be getting blocked.

i think ive sussed this.

even though i re sealed the trim fixings at bottom of windscreen to stop leaks and i had my ecu wrapped in a freezer bag i thought i would take a look and low and behold i found that water had gotten in somehow and ran down the loom to the bottom 4 pins on the ecu. these were nice and green.

so i took the ecu out took the cover off to check for water, it was fine luckily. i sprayed some contact cleaner on the terminal pins gave them a little scrap then did the same to the terminal block went up the road and the car reved again. i let it warm up nicely and it seems fine now.

as usual i am a little reticent about giving it beans full on until ive got a few miles under my belt with normal running and the odd blat but hopefully this is the end of the matter.....well put it this way im keeping my fingers crossed :D:D

the obvious place for water to get in on the fd is on through the trim fixings at the bottom of the windscreen. all you need to do is remove the screw covers, the screws and then the whole trim and you will see some plastic inserts that sit in the car baody that the screws go into. just take the inserts out puts a nice bit of silicon around them then put them back in place, then to be safe i put a blob of sealer in the centre where the screw fits then re assembled everything. this will most likely sort the leak out if its in the same place as mine was. if you have issues with the ecu you need to remove it dry it out completly then get some electrical cleaner and clean all the connectors up then if you want to be a little bit safer put it in a freezer bag then re fit it in place.

there are some threads that go into this a little more you will just need to search for it  :)

cant find the posts been trying for ages??? did cleaning the connection do it for you then?

I found this today? wet floor and a adapted harness to my standard ecu but nothing on it just cut wires

Water comes into the car from the screw holes that hold the scuttle plate in. Its the bit of plastic between the windscreen and bonnet. I had water running down into my ECU when I had my windscreen replaced so I took it back and they sealed up all the screwholes with that crazy black tar crap. Fixed the issue anyway.
