Can someone give me a head start please?

I see we have 1st, 2nd, 3rd gen RX7\'s here, but what\'s the engine numbers etc that identify each model please?  Is the latest one the FD3?  I think I got that one??

Point me in the right direction guys.....please:)

the 3rd gen is fd3s the 2nd gen is fc3s and the 1st gen is sa22c

Pre 80 1st gens are Sa22C\'s  

81-85 1st gens are known as FB\'s

2nd Gens are known as FC\'s

3rd Gens are known as FD\'s

10a - early engine found in early RX\'s , cosmo\'s etc.

12a - found in early RX\'s and in updated form in the 1st Gen RX7

13B 4 port - found in early RX\'s

13B 6 port - found in NA 2nd gen RX7\'s

13b Turbo - found in turbocharged 2nd gens

13B REW - twin turbo engine found in third gens and cosmo\'s

20B - triple rotor twin turbo found in Cosmos

thats a rough guide to the usual abriviations people use (probably missed some cars off the engine list tho\' )

Thanks for the run-down Mike. Just to add a little bit of confusion where previously there wasn\'t any  my 1982 model is labelled SA22c.

the list above is for UK cars ... Its a little different for the japanese home market and Oz as they didn\'t adopt the longer VIN numbers

hence why you jap import 1st gen is still an SA22C even though its an 82

a sure fire way to tell an import MX5 from a UK car is to look at the Vin number - the UK car should have JMZ at the begining and the import will not ...does anyone know if this is true for RX\'s ?

I see now.
My VIN number (and that\'s what they call it in English on the plate) actually starts with SA22C, so as you say, it\'s a shortened version, at least on this particular RX import.
