just a quick one..

i hav a HKS t04e which the shaft is proper scored. external wastegate.

i\'ve found a garrett t04e (yes hks is modified garrett), the garrett is internal wastegate.

would it be possible to simply swap over the compressor housing of the garrett one with the hks one?
thus having the garrett internal / centre and blades etc with hks housing?

cheers ta :)

also is 1mm play in the shaft ok? or is that too much?

As long as the turbine wheel is the same size you can swap over the turbine housing and keep the external wastegate
If the compressor wheels are the same size you only need to swap over the compressor housing, but if it is smaller and you want to use the HKS compressor wheel you will need to get it balanced.
I have a brand new one, not even fitted yet and it has quite a bit of play which is normal and gets taken up with oil when it\'s running.

I think a small amount of play is acceptable, but is it side to side or back and forward freedom ?

Agree with Phil - if the turbine and compressor blades are the same size, you can just swap the housings and no need to rebalance, as you haven\'t messed with the rotating part. Alter / swap anything that rotates and it needs balancing.

cheers guys. anything rotating in my old tub is completely fracked! so would use rotating bits from new tub and old housing, so no need to mess about with the downpipe to fit new housing etc.
