Hi ther just recently got myself a 2004 rx8 192 brilliant car 84k on her a wee problem sumbody has covered up management light so I scanned her and guess wat a code po661 can Sum kind person tell me how to fix this I believe it\'s inlet related the car runs ok I think she holds back a bit at around 6000rpm  are these meant to rev to 7000 sum advice please    Jim.

It\'s the secondary shutter valve solenoid within the air intake system.  It\'s not functioning and that\'s why it feels flat at 6000 rpm.

Apparently putting details of your car spec in your signature means the nice folks on exile-rotorsport think you\'re a fool.  I can think of no higher compliment!

Cheers for reply do you think itl be a new solenoid or maybe a clean I\'ve read that they seem to carbon up the rotary engines that is I\'m a diesel fitter so this is new to me      Thanks.   Jim

It could be sticking due to carbon, worth sticking some cataclean or seafoam through it.

Welcome Jim,

Will is correct with  the above, no guarantee but Cataclean works wonders on these cars, it\'s cheap and even if it does not help it will not do any harm.

You should find this in your local DIY store or E-Bay

finally got code po661 sorted,i checked both flapper valves by hand and both were free, then i swopped the ssv solenoid for the air cum egr solenoid and saw that the code had changed so then i removed the two solenoids and tested over a battery, one good one scrap so my local mazda dealer had one in stock £88.70,problem solved no codes so hopes this maybe helps sumbody else cheers for advice      jim
