Iam going on a euro road trip next friday through France Germany and Holland total distance home to home is just under 1450 miles. I have never driven my car slow enough to find out what it can do to a full tank.
If i drive like a vicar could i acheive 300 miles to a full tank? (ie 65mph average speed) The car in question is an fd with around 300hp tt
Im gettin really paranoid about fuel costs now worrying i wont have any spending money!

 anyone?:god

My FC does about 250-350 miles per tank, 72 litres tank lol if you are worried about running costs and you are keeping the car, perhaps think about LPG? On the other side, you think: "eeek its costing loads to run"....then you look at the car you are driving :) What I don\'t get is when people spend loads of money on a brand new car that is only slightly more economical :)

I get 250 with just a little bit of being cafefull. So 300 would be about the max I think you could do

Im only worried about running costs on this certain trip otherwise i wouldnt really care. 350miles sounds good ,this is what i will aim for. Like an experiment. cheers

with a fuel tank(76L) i can average 29mpg a run with a bit of low speed B road stuff(40-50mph)

if i was sat at 70mph i think 30mpg could be hit so i should be able to get close 500miles to a tank

I know blitz has got up to 30mpg on a run so its possible

you guys are impressive, I\'ve never seen such healthy numbers lol. But then again my drives are very mixed (motorway and sub-urban)...whenever I get behind the wheel I just can\'t resist :D

I feel i lot better now.  I will give you the stats next week.

In my FC I can get to the Pod (220 ish miles away) with around half a tank of fuel left. Thats cruising at around 70-80 mph most of the way. Unfortunately once at the Pod the consumption seems to rise dramatically! I reckon 350 miles is doable no probs.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

Yeah, my fuel seems to turn into noise :rollin

Worrying I worked out that if my new fuel injectors were maxxed at 85% duty cycle I would have enough fuel for...18 minutes :Laugh and thats before thinking about running a 3rd rail

ok your car has a similair power level to mine, i was able to drive from hayward rotary in berkshire to my home in aberdeen scotland (600 miles roughly) on about a tank and 3/4 and that was sitting about 80 or there abouts all the way and sometimes accelerating with my foot hard to the floor. in the city, in traffic etc i get about 120-130 miles on a tank

France      1.48
Germany   1.54
Holland     1.57
UK            1.47

Remember to put a fuel can in the boot and high tyre pressures on longer journeys, less electrics use, windows up, no aircon and follow large vehicles (wind-resistance) for better consumption?  :Tongue1

Just put it in 5th and drive at 65mph. Boring; yes, easy on fuel, yes. Most I ever managed on my fd was 240miles to a tank, very large street port, 80mph. Could have squeezed more out but that\'s when I becomes very very boring. Driving so much slower.
