Hey,

can anyone tell me if the splines and shaft diameter are a different size in a series 4 and a series 5.

reason why im asking is that i bought one of those cheap hkb boss\' off ebay a while ago for my 89 uk series 4 6 port, but the hole in it seems to be too small.

any info welcome thanks

I have similar issue on my 88 EGI (yet to try my 86).  First cheapo one I bought sounds like the same issue in that the hub does not fit on the splines.
I then bought a momo one and this does fit but when tightened up the steering wheel becomes very very very hard to turn.  Only way to allow it to turn is to loosen the nut to a point where it becomes dangerous.

Keep meaning to try them on my current EGI but have not got round to it so far.

Thanks

cheers for the input mark, at least i\'m not loosing the plot!lol

hmm its weird that the companies dont seem to list the 2 different sizes

Tried on my 86 EGI yesterday and could not get the cheap boss or the MOMO boss to fit.  Well hacked off as I have had this steering wheel sitting around ages now.

Out of interest Ross what HKB boss is it (I.E. the code on the box)?
just wanted to see if it was the OR-49 which is what Driftworks sells for FC\'s .

Hi Ross,

Looks like thats for the MX5 then.  At least you should be able to sell that on Ebay fairly easily, since there are plenty of MX5\'s out there.
Yes it\'s very annoying.

Just to say Ross, if you decide to try the OR-49 boss, you can get it here for almost £10 less.  If I get any spare money any time so, I may try for third time lucky with another boss purchase.
Apparently the Mountney boss I first bought should be fine for most mazda\'s (thats as specific as it is).  Will be putting up my bosses on Ebay soon, to try and afford me my next attempt.

Has anyone here got the HKB OR-49 on there FC?

Thanks

OR 17 ( not a typo )  is for the earlier cars and OR 49 is for 86 and later cars

the difference between the two is not splines,, but length of reach down to the horn contact brush for the brass contact ring

if you are clever you can turn the OR 17 ( not 18 ) spacer upside down and mount the brass ring to the other side and make it fit the short reach horn contact in the later cars
( ie,, they are the same universal parts just assembled differently to be either config )
it will also require you to drill the single offset notch for the traficator position sensor in FC

i have an OR 17 on an 86 bravo ute ( which shares much part commonality to the 86 FC , such as brake and clutch masters and boosters etc )
and all it requires was said mods to reverse the spacer for short reach horn contact
if i installed it the other way around it have no horn

Thanks for the info Bumpstart.

Update to my predicament.
The Momo boss which I could actually attach to my 88 EGI (but when tightened was impossible to turn) does not seem to fit on the 86 EGI at all.

The Mountney boss which I could not get on my 88 at all, fits and seems to work on my 86.

Weird but I finally have my Nardi wheel on an RX7 :)

Happy days
