While the car is off the road I need to keep my self occupied so iv decided to repaint my strut brace,

I\'m guessing this is how it\'s done but need a little guidance to ensure I don\'t fduk it up

Drill out rivets holding on rx7 plate and remove
Remove the end pieces
Sand off the original red paint (what grade paper do I need)
Does it need primer before painting the strut? If so what type?
Respray it with heat proof/resistant paint

Might even polish up the ends of the strut but we will see how bored I get

If you have any tips or tricks let me know so I don\'t mess it up

Cheers

No need to sand off the paint Kris, just take the shine off the stuff that is on it already this way you don\'t need to prime it again ;)

1: Dismantle the brace.
2: rub down to remove the gloss shine using 600 or 800 wet \'n\' dry (use a bit of soapy water when rubbing down)
3: pick your colour and go for it!

No need to go for any special heat paint matey as the brace shouldn\'t get any hotter than 40 possibly 50c and normal paint can cope with that :)

1. yes. 4mm drill and it\'ll pop off
2. yep.
3. No need for paper or to sand all the color off, I always use a scotchpad, just to rough up the surface enough to get the paint to stick.
4. you can use primer to slightly alter the paint color. The lighter the primer is, the brighter the colour will be.
5. heat resistant paint isn\'t necessary. Regular ol\' paint will do just fine.

here\'s one I did earlier....

And I redid it recently because the colour wasn\'t really my "thing"
