CHC (RIP)

I\'m launching this \'thread\' on behalf of the new owner of \'SIB\' who currently has no internet access and I\'m hoping he shall continue with this.
Dave wishes to upgrade his brake hoses to Braided type but is having difficulty finding anybody who has them suitable for the Series 2.

Here is the link from eBay for \'Goodridge\' hoses but apparantly when he checked with them, they say they are not suitable.

Anybody have any ideas?

I had some made up from parts bought from Demon tweeks. Pip put them together and gave me the numbers (quite some time ago).

Is there nothing on re-speed, pinapple racing or mazdatrix ?

As I thought...The Goodridge kit has no 5th hose for the centre connection to the back axle. Why is this....always the same with ebay kits?

I got my set of S3 braided hoses made up to my old rubber hose patterns by a guy named Stevson, somewhere near Aston Expressway, Birmingham. Cost £90

They were braided and were OK, but I had to to a little tinkering to make \'em fit. Not quite what I expected to have to do.

Still working fine though after about 4 years.

Pip/WGT also Demon Tweeks are both in the Cheshire Area aren\'t they?

I know Dave will want to stick with UK suppliers in the short term.
Demon Tweeks are near Wrexham if I recall correctly and there is also a flexible hose manufacturer that I know of tother side of Widnes/Runcorn so I\'ll do a little digging and see if I can unearth some information.

Well spoke to my contact :flamed :Hammer what a bummer, allegedly \'brake\' lines are at the cheaper end of the scale for flexible hoses so they will not entertain the thought of manufacturing these and neither does he have any contacts.  So it seems that it\'s being left with the big boys.

Are braided hoses really neccessary on a road car and worth the expense?

Fair enough if you are going to race it or do track days but for normal use, the standard FB brakes are more than up to the job.
The standard car was 115bhp, when Elford increased that to 165bhp with a turbo, the  only mods they made to the brakes were to fit harder front pads... everything else was left as stock.

People say, \'they made the pedal much firmer\' but if they are replacing tired OEM rubber hoses, old fluid and bleeding the brakes, then a difference would be noticed.

I\'m unconvinced and they seem an expensive luxury to me.
A new set of OEM hoses and fresh, air bubble free fluid is the way I\'m going.

Good point Ian, when I replaced mine with braided it was because the original ones had been on there 25 years, I ordered a complete set of replacement hoses from Mazda, but decided to use these for patterns, Goodridge made me up a set but it took them 3 tries hence the photos I took to send to them. The cost for braided was about £90 and not far short of that form Mazda for the original ones.

I agree with your comments enitrely but the new owner used to be into motor cycles (no harm in that) and this is something that he used to do for all his 2 wheeled modes of transport.  He wants to continue this theme with the rex.

I met up with Dave today -\'SIB\' new owner, smashing guy and we had a good look round her.
Yeah the body is in fairly good shape for her age and honestly seems a very good purchase.
I have the answer here for the gang - what is the tow-bar connected too?  1stly Dave has already said that he will take it off so it won\'t be an issue but it is simply bolted to the floor of the spare wheel well and the rear bumper frame! OMG & WTF - sorry, Oh dear what a pity, never mind - came to mind, a bit scary for me.  The fact is that the car is theoretically road worthy - apart from currently being worked on - and I\'ll be proud to accompany Dave to any meets we can arrange.

I had an S2 some years ago that had the same tow bar fitting when I got it.....it was only for pulling a trailer though.

I\'ve got a Silver S2 scuttle plate as well, which I think Dave wants if anyone is over this way.

I might drop it at my friends in Cheshire in a few weeks time. That\'ll rev Sue up a bit more. Nockie\'s junk.

Apparently the po used it for towing a speedboat (the perfect accessory in my book for a sports car) but quite honestly I can\'t see what difference it makes with a tow-bar bolted at the wrong fixing points - it\'s still wrong!  My SA in the 80\'s had a tow-bar too but I don\'t remember looking to see where it was secured - not that I ever used it anyhow.

I\'ve no plans at present to be over your way but have a word with Dave cause he travels home from the south on a Friday and to my thinking he could just stay north rather than turning towards Cheshire, then he could collect himself?
Failing that, if you could get it to Hartford, Dave could collect from there - that way Sue wouldn\'t have it hanging round too long (perhaps she could keep it in a kitchen cupboard for a day or so ... he.he.he.
