Hi everyone. I am pretty new to the site but I need help. I am currently in the middle of an engine rebuild on my fd rx7 and need some tips and hints that could help me?

I have one major thing which is that I have a pulley/motor on the left of the  engine which most engines I have seen have not got. The alternator belt goes around it and then down to the main pulley. Does anybody know what it is and could I remove it?

Also am I able to remove the a/c and is it a worthwhile job/easy job?

I know there are a few things hat can make the engine run easier but need the expertise of yourselves to help me out.

Any input would be fantastic and appreciated.

Thanks

clive

I would recomend a search for either a rebuild DVD or a download from Youtube where I beleive there are a few,

For the DVD look up //www.mazdatrix.com as this is probably the best one out there,

Also the pulley you decribe is for the air pump that assists emissions and removing the AC is going to be personal choice

Hope this helps
All the best Clive

Yeah I have the rebuild DVD so that\'s in hand but will check that out.thanks.so would removing that pump do harm to the engine or would I be ok?

The pump on the left is the air pump, taking this off will destroy your cat and you can\'t remove your cat until you get an after market ECU such as Apexi as the standard ECU cant control the boost with a decat on.
Cool to remove AC pump, just replace the belt with one from a Seat toledo 1.9 turbo diesel without aircon 93-98.

After having an fd with the air con removed i will deffo be keeping it on the next road car, for the power increase you get imo i dont think its worth taking off unless you are after every last drop of bhp. hth rob
