i got a 04 RX8 been a great car starts up hot or cold no worries......but it wont now
took it out sunday started up had a drive to work did 8 hours at work started up drove home no worries left it for two days now wont start
it turns over fine and you can smell petrol but it seems like no spark was told it the coil packs can they go like that........any help please

If it smells of fuel it might just be flooded.

Could be worth while giving it a tow start? The tow ring screws into the front bumper if you haven\'t used it before, took me ages to find that when i towed one in the dark :rollin. It\'ll take a fair distance to start but hopefully it\'ll be fine for you!

First of all, welcome,

Yes it\'s flooded i\'m afraid.

There are various de-flood procedures but as Dave says, a tow will start it if your confident you can do this.

If try this simple way,

Make sure you have a well charged battery, remove the fuel pump fuse located in the box to the right of the air filter.

Get somebody to turn the car over and after 2 or 3 minutes put the fuse back in while the engine is still turning over and it may well start.

One big tip once it has started is, don\'t rev the car thinking a good rev will clear it.

Let the car warm up naturally using as few revs as possible to keep it running because all a good rev will do is ignite all the fuel laying in the catalytic converter which will potentially burn it out.
All the best Clive

cheers chaps
but why did it do it never had a problem before......if the weather good tomorrow going to have the plugs out and give them a clean
i have taken a coil off and there is a big white spot on the bottom of the coil

If there are big white spots then they need changing the wife\'s 8 had light grey spots on the bottom and the starting was like a flooded piston thing lol. Changed the coils new plugs and new battery never had a problem since.

Hope this helps

Don\'t forget to pin the throttle open when you take the EGI fuse out, it will allow for fresh air to be sucked into the engine clearing out the richness.

Mazda rotary parts also do some shiny shiny new coils :D
