Well I done searches and not found this thread anywhere! I know it\'s a vague area as both are quite different, but I guess it\'s worth people putting their opinions and experiences in a thread.

So what are the pro\'s and cons for the older and newer generation if rotary engined cars? E.g. Rx7 is faster? The rx8 is more reliable and has better engine life? (I am just giving examples here I could be wrong!) I think for now we should just stick the the fd rx7 and the first generation of rx8 (as the new one is well out my price range!

Hopefully this will be an interesting thread.

Well what you have to remember is that the RX-8 is more of a luxury car than the previous models (not that it\'s not built for sport) but as far as I know the only Turbo RX-8\'s are conversions, the rest are NA\'s, but I stand to be corrected.

Second is tax band - anything made before... one of the first years in 2000 (2001 or 2002 i think) is subject to old tax law and this maximum tax (at the time of posting) is roughly around £200 a year. After that things like the RX-8, earlier Mazda3 MPS models all are shunted into the highest tax band and cost more in the region of £400 a year.

Thirdly is looks - regardless of other peoples opinions, what do YOU like? Do you prefer the RX-7 or RX-8? Do you like mod-cons or performance interiors? If you\'re looking at RX-7\'s the market for performance parts, body kits, mods, is HUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE compared to the market for the RX-8, though the market for RX-8 parts has boomed recently, it\'s still not really on par with what\'s available for the RX-7 series.

I havn\'t worked on or seen many performance RX-8\'s, so can\'t tell you whether the 8\'s are easier or more difficult to work with, but I\'m sure other members can fill that in for you. :)

It\'s not hard to find on the forums pictures of RX-7\'s that have been modified, but heres a prime example of an RX-8 show car.
