Battery Removal

Hi All
 
Would I be better charging my RX 8 battery while it is still connected to the car or should I disconnect Will I lose any setting by disconnecting the battery from the car.

I always leave mine connected when I charge it in my car, always have on any car i\'ve owned and it\'s never caused a problem. Just like jump starting I\'d leave the battery connected too

You will also have to reset the DSG...so best to leave it connected.
 
If you do need to disconnect you will need to recalibrate.
 
Turn the ignition on, and turn the steering wheel fully right, fully left and then back to centre.  Turn the ignition off....and back on, that will calibrate the DSG

Could be a daft question but what is a DSG for future ref.

The DSC  system is the amazingly brilliant stability control system that the RX-8 is equiped with ,

This gives you traction control and will also operate the brakes and steering should the car start to get out of contol in any way,

If your ever just removing or disconecting the battery you should not have any worries because providing nothing else has been altered because the ECU will relearn itself if it feels there\'s a problem anyway,

Providing we are talking trickle charger you should be fine,

However if it is a charger equiped with a booster "ZAP" to start setting then never operate this type of charger on a modern day car or you risk frying the ECU

BTW if you hold the DSC button in for 7 seconds with the engine running it will immobilise the DSC system completely till the next time you turn the ignition of then it will automaticaly reset itself
