Radiator Protection

Hi all-
 Now I know that the original car never did have any mesh or grill proctecting the Radiator, but now that my front is a bit more open than standard, the fins are suffering! :o
I tried some mesh, but the small holes seemed to be upsetting air flow at higher speeds, and temperatures increased
I\'ve noticed that any car that has any sort of mesh in the front grill, has large holes in the mesh construction, but havent yet found anything similar
Any ideas!?
