Hi all,
Has anybody else felt like they were painting the forth bridge with their rex? Get one problem fixed just for another gremlin to pop up and ruin your day? Had my starting problem and clutch fixed by the fabulous people at silverstone autos and now a couple of months down the line what seems like a whole host of disasterous problems have turned up. A fresh problem means it won\'t ever start without a fight, and then doesnt boost over 1.3bar. Overfueling, flooding, random idles. Does this sound like an apexi ecu and tune could well solve the problem? My knightsports one seems to not work at all anymore too....
I need some reassurance and enthusiasm injecting into me if anyone can help!!!! I love my rex to bits but if this next stint in the garage doesnt solve it by 60% ( I can deal with personality in a car and little problems) I\'m afraid I may have to sell as I can\'t stand having her sat in my garage twiddling her thumbs. :( How much does it take so I can use it as an (almost) daily driver?! Id do anything just to know I could just go over to the garage, sit in the rex and for her to start without a complaint!!!

Don\'t think it helps I got turfed out of my double garage for a bloody council lock up I can barely open A door in either. Checking levels is a task in itself in that dive!!

HEEEELLLPP EVERYBODY!!!!

ermm from what i picked out from that is you want to run over 1.3bar! who mapped it at that level, also we need a bit more info like the spec of your car etc

if your running that much boost it may be the reason by your car doesnt start anymore

Ho ho ho....your issues are nowhere near, i repeat, nowhere near Nik Da Greeks issues he has had with his car.

he has litterally had everything go wrong with it.....seek out Nik, speak to him, and you WILL feel much better!
Turned into the worst part of my life....my precious fd3 has gone, but never forgotten....roll on a new life!!!!

It\'s errrrm..... nice to be some sort of living rule hahaha. I haven\'t broken the seats yet Dan, but yeah, pretty much everything else :rollin

Chachi, it all becomes worth it when you get out on the open road with it all working as God and Mazda intended. Y\'know, bit of turbo chatter, bit of flameage, embarrass a few Porsches or M3s, have children point and even awkward teenagers nod sheepishly, all that kinda jazz.

Anyone who\'s moved their car one millimetre from stock has been where you\'re at, you\'re not alone! Just stick with it and one day you\'ll remember why, dude :Thumbs-up. 1.3 bar does seem a lot though

My fd hasnt seen the road since july 2006. Since then iam £40k in debt and now showing a few grey hairs!
 But today i insured her!:3gears-rh
Its one step forward two steps back when you own an fd.

i guess better to get it all go wrong at the same time than spread over a long time. means once everything is changed it will be reliable :)

hang in there, will be worth it in the end :)
thats what i keep saying to myself and mine has been off road for past 18+ months.
2 doritos on a stick woohoo :rollin

you know it makes you smile which is why you percevere.....what does Joanie think about all this ??? :D

Hi RX7

I think the majority of owners have similar thoughts at some stage of ownership and if you have the fibre (and money) to stay the course there is always the pleasure and grin factor that you get from theses cars. I had a very difficult start to RX7 ownership being someone who had done his research and chose the RX7 over a 34 GTR and a Honda NSX having managed to drive all 3 in a 48 hour period. When mine went pop in a big way after a month of ownership I had it re-built by a reputable builder and despite my wanting to stick a V8 in it to prevent further heartache I am now warming to the rotary and with it running so well now (sods law is going to bite me in the butt for this statement) I am firmly in the camp of keeping the car as it should be. Just recently I tried the new Nissan GTR which is the only car I\'ll replace my RX7 with and its a storming car but there is something about the RX7 which when running well just has that something thats difficult to put into words so just try to keep the faith because the car does need looking after properly which means throwing a bit of money at it which of course you will never get back other than the grin factor you get driving it.

I had a new engine in mine when I bought it and have had 6 years of use and abuse out it. Most of it is reusable and is going back into the car. Over the years I have done a huge amount of modding work on improving cooling. I only had the twins at 0.95 bar and they only lasted 12 months before running a single turbo.

I really want mine back in one piece because it\'s only run for a few months this year because of self induced stuff. Mainly the roll cage !

Thanks all!!! :) fully enjoyed scott baio pitchiing in! Woops about the 1.3 too! meant .3! Shes a \'92 FD type R with twin apexi air intakes, borla 4" straight through exhaust, hks intercooler and as I mentioned before a busted knightsports ecu with boost control. 3 upgrade rule maybe? If it were another car I\'d say it sounds like the choke is constantly staying out aswell.. is that possible in an FD? I\'ll list a few of my ailments:

-- on (eventual) starting (after a good few turnovers and only catching it on the throttle) I have to keep my revs up manually until shes warmed up. Letting my foot off the throttle results in a stall until then. During this warm up there tends to be a puff or pop of fuel and exhaust smoke but this only lasts for about a minute.

-- After squeezing her out of the garage she runs and idles fine until you put your foot anywhere near down. Then, she sounds like a corsa with a £20 exhaust and feels really laboured like theres no turbos at all. If I do get full boost in 1st/2nd gear as soon as I switch up and keep going she\'ll not boost again.. letting off the throttle then results in a "BOOOOOOO" sound. Its weird though, I\'m sure it depends on the day \'cause sometimes she\'ll boost fine

---Then after a calm, cooling drive back and even a bit of cooldown time back at the garage or wherever I\'ve stopped I\'ll switch her off. If it happens to be say.. on a car park at asda and I\'ve finished my beer shopping Ill come to start her, landing me straight back on my first dilema.

Thats all the main problems I can think of at the moment apart from little things that I can or am currently dealing with. Mainly bodywork and interior. Can anyone help me on what this might be? Taking into account work I\'ve done/had done including: rebuild and fresh standard turbos just over a year ago, new clutch master cylinder, new (top of my head) is it oil management?? that was what caused my peril most recently. but yeah..

In light of all your tails I do seem to be groaning about absolutly nothing! I think I do feel a bit like this cause I\'ve not experienced a good cane around an open road in a long time, I\'m sure if I stick it out I\'ll get that smile back on my face! and this forums been amazing keeping me in faith and helping me out! You\'ve not been wrong yet :D
 Cheers all!

First thing to check is the boost sensor is connected. It is located on the bulkhead behind the throttle body. If it is unplugged or the line is split the ecu thinks it\'s seeing boost all the time and shoves loads of fuel in.

Could just be some dodgy vac lines for the 0.3 boost.

Do you have a boost guage? I\'m guessing so by your 0.3 bar comment..

Chachi

Yeah, got the defi gauges. Cheers for the tips, I\'ll go have a look as soon as I\'ve got some spare time. I\'ll add the conversion to my price list of possibilities.
