Nocturnal

Hi everyone :WaveBye

I\'ve been after a nice FC for as long as I can remember, but have come across a rather cheap FB which has spent most of its life in a garage, and get the gut feeling that I\'d be a bit daft to pass it up.

So, some really newbish questions, sorry!

I understand they use the 12A, is this right? What kind of power do these churn out in realistic terms nowadays?

What\'s the aftermarket for these like? Particularly with respects to things like adjustable coil-overs and roll cages. Are we talking off-the-shelf or custom fab jobbys?

Boring one this, but what\'s the tax for one of these?

Is the alignment adjustable using the OEM kit?

Cheers for any replies. I\'m still debating whether to jump back into the seat of an MX5, stick with the GTE project I currently have, or gamble with an RX. Hopefully you can help me decide!

Hi Again

My car has been kept as original as possible, and as for the mods you ask about I\'m not the one to ask, but I\'m sure there will be someone along latter that will help, also if you do not decide to buy the FB there maybe someone on here that could be interested, and I know one man who is on his hols at present that would love to know the reg no for his records.

Keep posting

No worries, I should find out by the end of next week whether I\'m in a realistically financially stable enough position to warrant another project, if not I\'ll bang the details up here. :)

Cheers and good luck .............

you can get coilovers top mounts lsd units (chek out reSpeed.com) but you will be looking to import a lot of it from the US i built mine up over the last 3-4 years so the pound Vs dollar was much better then (have a look though my thread, should be a link in my sig) as for a cage i\'m not aware of a \'off the shelf\' option

Do it - they\'re lovely :)

I lost the standard exhaust, air pump etc etc, and it now has pacesetter manifold and racing beat exhaust.
According to the Dyno, it\'s pushing out 150bhp at the flywheel - which is enough for the car, always puts a smile on my face :D

Custom Cages makes a 1st gen cage. Very nice piece of kit. Somebody is fitting on at the minute on here.

As mark says the main markets for parts are USA and Aus/NZ and the exchange rate is not good at the moment.

There is a huge following on rx7club in USA with plenty of info in the FAQ section.

Hi there Nocturnal....YES, As Dibs (A7 RXY) kindly said (I have \'em all prompted as you can see), I would love to know the Reg No of the FB for my Register.

I\'ve only a couple of Series 2\'s (1981 to 1984 approx) and four Series 3\'s (1984 to 1986) listed as living in West Yorks. Might be one of those?

I can tell you the Road Tax, its £205 per year. Being pre-2001 CO2 emissions it\'s a fixed tax for all earlier cars that are above about 1590 cc.

Power, well the 12A was on par with an Astra GTE in the 80\'s but any hot hatch would out sprint both of them nowadays. That\'s allright though, for me they\'re just magic machines and so rare you will certainly get respect.
I think BHP was around 120? top speed one hundred and twenty something, depends on your speedo.

Oh yes, and the Astra GTE had awful torque steer, the RX is lovely jubbly rear wheel drive.

Aftermarket parts... Well probably as said, the states, 450,000 1st gens went there.
Scrapyards and dusty new/old bits on ebay are the way I go.

I have kept the details of most of the cars that have recently been for sale if you want some alternatives?
