hello fellers im new....

its a shame i have to say hello with a problem ... looking forward to meating some of you at japfest ,, (although im taking the MR2)

i digress just bough a lovely FD the only drama ive got is when i pull off in first anything other than like a granny it feels like the back wheels skipp and bounce .. now the guy i bought it off gave me recips for 2 diffs he had put on it .. the one thats on there looks in good knick ..

just done a diff oil change and it was slightly over full .. and a bit mirky so replaced

but still skipping ??

now not sure if its the diff of the gearbox ... as the center console dose get very hot when the cars warm and genraly the car smells a bit oily...

might just be me having no previous with rotarys??
any help appreciated:WaveBye

will post pics when it stops raining

is it a stock diff or aftermarket? if its a 2 way diff then it will skip when turning...

do you mean the wheels feel like they are stopping and starting? or bouncing up and down like axel tramp?

turbotoaster

when you say skipping, do you mean wheel hop, like the suspension is going up and down really quickly(chatter)

i know if you dont have a diff brace rx7s get alot of wheel hop, or are you on about something else

vinnyninja

standard diff ..

feels like the whole back of the car is bouncing ...kinda like my mate used to get in his 500hp civic type r  ... but for me its the rear wheels

it only seems to happen when the cars warm and like i said if i pull off quickly .. the power is there but just cant put it down

its on megan coilovers  with all the geometry setup ..
poly diff mounts

diff brace ? ill have to look into that

turbotoaster

sounds like wheel hop then, i get it alot, a few people have said getting a diff brace stops it but see if anyone else can comment

If it\'s with any vigour at all, my money is on bushes. First stop will be the diff bushes themselves. If they don\'t solve it, then you need to check for slop in all the other bushes at the rear end.

I\'ve poly\'d all of them and still get a reasonable amount of tramp :( Nobody likes tramp.

fduked bushes as been said, replace bushes add diff brace, also check the shocks are not knackered as well

i had this on my fd for a while my quick solution was to drop my rear tyre pressure by a few psi and you should reduce wheel hop.

also ive swapped my suspension setup for a softer coilover setup and its almost eliminated all wheel hop.
also all my bushings were fine.

ive also heard that a good diff brace will stop this.

what i would do is go the cheapest routes first. check the bushings if any of them are knackered replace them. then go diff brace and lastly go for a softer rear setting on your dampers or maybe a softer spring rate.

I would have thought this made wheel hop even worse as increasing grip slightly.

You can\'t compare springs rates on completely different cars dude - i.e 8kg/mm might be super hard on one car with a very low leverage ratio, and super soft on one with the springs right by the pivot.
