I have a 93 import rx7, where i am i can only get normal unleaded petrol:Grrr so do i mix octane booster in with it? if so what kind?:3Confused

philiwily

I wouldn\'t bother, just make sure you have your normal fuel in it when it gets mapped.

Do you gain much power from getting it mapped on hi ocatane fuel?

trotter

I don\'t know what the exact figure as a percentage is. But higher octane is less susceptible to knock / detonation meaning you can run higher compression ratios wothout risking damage.

If however, you map it properly on normal unleaded then this shouldnt be an issue. And i would expect actual power gains would be minimal to be honest, on the order of around 10-20bhp.

Anyone else got more experience?
Work hard, play hard house :D

If i can gain power from getting it mapped on i higher octane fuel, i would be happy to buy an additive  to mix with the normal unleaded. But whats the best Octane booster to buy?

AtomicRex

Don\'t bother!

There have been countless tests back to back with fuels and octane boosters, and they all proved that the boosters offered no increase in either power or performance.

It is still possible to map the car on a lesser fuel, surely there must be an Esso/BP/Shell or even supermarket that has some super unleaded near by??

Remember they have these Rx7\'s in the States....and they\'re mapped on anything from, I think, 89 RON...but they certainly don\'t have the luxury we do with 98 etc!!

Cheers for that, thats all i wanted to know! Normal unleaded it is!:yes

if he has an import RX doesn\'t that mean its mapped to 100RON fuel? would it not be best for him to plug in a UK spec FD ECU? alternatively just get an apexi PFC :D lol

Joeh

UK Spec ECU wouldn\'t work on a JDM
