Just wondering how people control the boost on single turbo conversions.... do you just use the power Fc or do you add a boost controller Eg apexi avc-r????

Sean

My brother is about to have the apexi AVC-R fitted to his MR2 Turbo, I\'ll let you know how he gets on with it.:wave

I have had an AVC-R on an MR2 in the past....good bit of kit, but a bit dated now....

I have a power FC but i was just wondering if this is cable of controlling a single turbo boost.

Cheers

Sean

Just don\'t tell my bruv its out of date now!!!!!!!

As far as i am aware you cannot control boost on a single turbo with a PFC, unless you do some trickery with the standard duty solnoid.
I use a GRedy Profec A or B to control mine, or you could use a Bleed Valve! not recomended though.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

How would a boost controller interface with a power fc, and would you need to get the apexi unit or would any make work?

Would the boost controller take over the boost control completely, making the boost settings on the pfc non-functional or is there some way of using them together. Assume there must be other wise they would conlfict surely.

Is there not a boost control option with the power FC to control a single turbo application

the boost contoller doesnt need to be controlled or linked by the ECU,  mazda have 2 solanoids to control the boost mainly for safety reasons (reduce the boost slightly if temps get too high or knock too high. You only need a boost controller on a single turbo if you want to be able to run different levels of boost in different conditions, ie you dont want your full boost on all the time.  Some electronic boost controllers claim to improve your boost curve by holding the wastegate shut until you reach your chosen boost level but i have a profec A and a Profec B and neither seemed to make much difference.  I just use it so that i run the car at 10 psi most of the time and when i\'m on the 1/4 mile i will wind it up to 14 or 15.

The waste gate and turbo set up should be good enough to give you a stable boost curve and the spring in the waste gate will dictate what boost you run. Without this set up working properly you will have problems.

Yes there is Dave, an Apexi boost control kit, which uses a solenoid identical to a Greddy Profec B as it happens.

Unfortunately, the Power FC is not the best method of controlling the solenoid, hence I went the Profec B route.

Do you mean variable boost control?

The boost on  a single turbo should be controlled by the wastegate itself (spring etc.)
Thanks,
