Just wondering if anyone here has fitted a HKS twin plate to an FD ?

Yup I have the HKS twin plate GD Pro on mine, I\'ve had it for 3 years with new plates and done Time Attack this year too, still going well with only a bit of slip. The good thing is only the plates need to be replaced when it gets worn, although HKS has discontinued some applications hopefully not the FD! You also need to change from a push to a pull type (or perhaps the other way around) when installing the clutch.

Its very on/off when new and takes some getting used too. It will also judder when in traffic which is not nice, but the pedal is very light. You have to be carefully on downshifts during the wet as it will lock up the wheels! But the bite is very, very good!

Cheers for the reply Ben but i must have a different clutch, mine is the HKS GD pro twin plate, and is already a pull type like the stock FD.

Anyway all sorted.
For future reference to anyone searching for how to fit one of these as there isnt much info out there on these.
The confusion was that to fit the clutch the two friction plates are placed on the flywheel as there are pins to hold them in place.
The cover plate duz away with the release bearing cage and slips through a collar attached to the pressure plate forks, then the circle clip is clipped on the end of the bearing through the Pressure plate, so the cover plate and bearing are attached to the gearbox, then the g/box is poped in and the pressure plate is bolted up via the access hole in the bottom of the g/box.

Ill get some mock pictures up later to explain as the clutch isnt in the car yet.

Also ill change the title a little to make this a little easier to find in the archives.

Hope this all makes sense.

I have the PRO version, its a push type.

The Max version has a sprung centre:

A right pain to fit I might add, I need to get some new plates soon as mine are getting on the low side.:burnout

Yep same as 1st pic but that pressure plate you have in the 1st picture is deffo a pull type like i have, otherwise the forks would be pointing in the other direction :D

Had a good talk to HKS Europe yesterday and he sent me the parts list for the HKS GD pro and it deffo says pull type.

Oh and btw both those pics aren\'t for a FD as the Fd flywheel only has 6 bold holes :)

The MAZDA RX-7 1987-1991 Turbo is a push type.

All the sites that sell the clutches just pop up a generic picture so thats why it took me a while and a few phonecalls to HKS Europe to figure the missing parts required :)

If you look here you will see that the 2nd gen is push type and 3rd gen is pull type.

Ahh good info! The pics were more for if you had the sprung centre or not. I guess on quick glance I got the FC one confused with the FD one lol!

Out of interest what did they quote you for a couple of replacement plates?
Cheers

Got my plates from RHDjapan but HKS Europe can let you know where they will be a little more local.
Think i payed £167 deliverd per friction plate.

The HKS GD pro has now been discontinued for the FD but they will continue to make the friction plates.

I was after a bearing carrier and HKS Europe told me that HKS japan only has 3 left.
So if you need parts or want spares order quick as they are almost depleted from Mazda themselves, and they have no intentions of supporting them.
