hello guys,
i was wondering if anybody could help me. my friend has got a single turbo rx7. fd model, large single turbo, blitz smic metal gauze type conical filter, controlled by power fc.
he has idle issues. his car is an auto. his car has started idling at about 2k rpm in d and when in n idles between 1.5 and 2k rpm. it jumps between 1.5 and 2 constantly as if somebody has their foot on and off the acc pedal??
obviously, with the car being single turbo he has no solenoid rack and a lot less vacuum hoses. i noticed that all 6 nipples on the lim were open to atmosphere and the top left of the four nipples on the uim by the tb was open also. i blocked these off with silicone hose and bolts and this dropped his idle in d down to between 1 and 1.5k and his idle issue in n dropped a little.
am i wrong to plug these open holes because on a stock twin car, the nipples on the lim would go to things like the crv that he doesnt have?
also, on my car, (stock twins) the hose from the double throttle actuator goes to the solenoid rack, on his car, it seems to go from the double throttle actuator to a stand alone vacuum chamber (which i didnt have on mine) and then from that to an actautor with a green electrical connector ( maybe double throttle control solenoid) ?
is there a certain way to configure the way the vacuum hoses go when you go single or are there a few different ways depending on set-up?
i am going to his tomorrow to remove the uim to have a further look at what goes where so if anybody had a diagram or any info to give me something to follow that would be great.
a lot of things look strange to me because i have only had experience with replacing stock twin hoses
thanks for reading!

type rx7 vaccum dagrams in google images.

all the little nipples need to be blocked off that are not used, were they blocked before he had the problems??

no, they were not. i looked at the car for him the other day and it looked odd. i will take the uim off today to check no other lines have split and there are no other open ends. so i can get the single turbo diagrams off google images too?

karl_tate

seems strange that he just started getting the bad idle.

yeh they are all on there bud

I live in Bristol with a single tubby that I might be able to help with if you like?

gear1275

that would be great nikp! where abouts in bristol do you live? i took apart stan\'s (my friend\'s) car on monday and re-routed a few hoses according to google images! and it seemed to sort his problem! he still has a boost issue and other issues so were off to dragon on the 19th. my car has just died from water seal failure i think (soon to be confirmed) so i wouldnt be able to come across to see you without him but ill speak to him if your around sometime? im trying to weigh up my options, what do you think, a £3k rebuild on a car that cost £2750 to buy, or buy a used engine, or split the car and buy new?? im only 20yrs old though so i can only insure u.k\'s!! any ideas?? please! cheers, james
