Anyone have a good guide for fixing ABS issues?

The light comes on at start up, then goes out. After moving a few feet forward it comes on again. FYI I did change the sensor on the front left for one I bought on here, could this be a faulty unit? Is there an easy way to check?

I visited local garage who tried to use a Bosch diag unit to read the ABS fault code but they said there was no errors or their unit would not read the REX ECU.

If anyone lives near Stevenage and fancies fixing this for me let me know. I can supply bear tokens in exchange :p

I thought I would have a go at trying to fix this myself... so...

I jacked the car up and disconnected each of the font ABS sensors at the plug. I connected the multi meter and set it to meter ohms. The drivers side sensor says 1001 when connected and then when I spin the wheel it goes to approx 1020. When I repeated this on the passenger side I do not get any reading. So it looks like a faulty sensor. What I do not understand is why the ABS light goes out after starting the car up, I thought that the ABS ECU checks all of the sensors at startup for resistance. Can someone confirm that for me please? At present the light goes out then comes back on after the car starts moving. I can only pressume that the ABS ECU does not check and then panics when it only gets 3 sensor readings.

So it now looks like I need a new / used front left ABS sensor. Anyone have one available?

Thanks
Ben
