exhaust help please

When driving my FD for a while i get a strong fuel smell in the car and a blowing noise from somewhere near the gearbox. I have had a good look around but can not see anything wrong.Could the downpipe,which seems to have a cover on it, be cracked which opens up when hot?

possibly, but i doubt it though, best bet would be to get it up on a ramp and with it running check no gasses are escaping

Have you still got a cat on? If not and the air pump is connected then the blowing will be from the air pump.
I get a petrol smell from time to time, it\'s normal on some cars apparently

not got the cat on and air pump is not connected. the exhaust is stainless apart from the downpipe which is stock.
