Can anyone help after rebuilding engine and doing non-sequential conversion on the tubs everything was going fine whilst it was being run in on the dyno but after backing off on the last run white smoke started pouring out of the exhaust, suspected blown turbo so bought some low mileage tubs off a lad here and swapped the turbos over using the origional exhaust housing as it was milled out and welded up allready, thing is we still have the same problem, oil seems to be being forced out of the middle exhaust manifold gasket (not much but noticable) and into the exhaust itself, before we remove the turbos again was wondering if anyone had any insight to this as it might be something simple rather than another set of knackered tubs, we have removed the oil lines and checked for blockages but they are perfect plus the car starts brilliantly from cold and hasn`t been mapped yet, any advise would be greatly apreciated :Thumbs-up thanks Ade.

forgive me if im beeing a bit special but doesn\'t an oil leak result in blue smoke?
white smoke is usually from a water seal failure .

That is normally the rule of thumb; oil equates to blue smoke and white smoke is techinically steam.

how long did you run the car after replacing the turbos?, there might be still oil in the exhaust system and its being burned off

Its deffinatley oil, there is no loss of water, my brother tells me he cleared all the oil out of the exhaust then he re started the car there was just a bit then it got worse and worse the longer the car ran

BlitzBoy

so the oil you can see is between the engine block and the manifold dripping through the gasket?

If the turbos were dead enough to put neat oil up the exhaust the spindle will have lots of play in them and possibly blade contact to the walls as the bearings fail then take the seals out normaly and will show lots of play,

If there is no play in the old turbos then this probably not the fault,

Start the engine and see if you have lots of fumeing out of the filler neck after taking the cap off, if you have, sadly this will be an internal engine fault.

Next question then has to be if you have real pressure out of the neck is do you know if the oil control ring set was replaced during the rebuild,
All the best Clive

He tells me the oil is dripping through the exhaust housing on the turbos (well forced through is what he said exactly), I hav`nt had time to look myself but it appears to be the same as on the last set, I will pop down tommorow and check everything out myself, will check everything you have said too Clive, thanks again for the replies without this advice I think my brother would have had a heart attack by now :Thumbs-up

What was the outcome of this chap?

Turbo, water seal or engine?

Sounds a lot like mine, people diagnosed turbo failure and it was actually failed primary and mullered side seal.

Cost me over 6k all in all, but better than ever now :D

Engine is toast mate, its currently at WGT awaiting strip down to see exactly whats wrong and then £1600 plus parts for another rebuild, my brother is not a happy chappy, it was built by someone who wanted to learn how to build rotary engines, he has an established performance center that deals with mostly cosworths and some jap metal, my brother had his car set up there and it threw a tip on the dyno, he said he would build it for just parts at first but after finding out what was involved he said he wanted £500 labour, although he has said he will give my brother the £500 notes back but we will see, lesson learnt, leave it to one of the few pros in this country or build it myself, did mine on my dining room table and its fine :)
