Fuel/oil premixing?

I read on a yank site that the best way to prolong the life of an elderly rotor, is to premix 2stroke oil with each refill. Is this true? I still have the original OMP running as well, but I don\'t want to do more harm than good!

I put some ordinary motorcycle 2stroke oil in the other day, and it smoked like good\'en. Did I put a little too much in or should I just not bother?

Cheers for help?

Hi Sean,
Premix is seen as a good idea due to the fact that the 2 stroke oil is designed to be burnt in the chamber and leaves no carbon deposits, and little residue. Before i had my engine stripped and rebuilt, i was runnung premix with my mechanical OMP at a ratio of about 400:1. When putting in 40 litres=10ml of premix. On inspection of the rotor housings, they were found to be extremely clean with minimal carbon build up around the plugs. I now run the car only on synthetic premix, with the OMP system removed and plugged. This also allows the engine to be run on a synthetic oil, to allow the best lubrication to  the bearings and turbo system. I premix at a ratio of 150:1. I do experiance smoke on start up, and occasionally during acceleration.

I hope that this explains a bit about the subject, but the yank sites have more info.

I\'ve been getting oil blow back on the rear of the car!!!!
Am I just putting too much in or should I stop doing it because the cat will be full of oil by now?

HI,
Can you elaborate on you blow back? Is it liquid or soot? What mix are you using? Check your spark plugs, and see what colour they are. They should be a dark straw colour. What fuel are you using? When premixing..depending on how much is used.. the octane level of the fuel is lowered. How much excactly i am not sure. In you case, it will be barely noticable.
You will get white smoke on start up, but should disapear once the engine is warm.
I hope this helps

Hi,
I have been given an oil metering pump adapted to take its supply from a separate tank. The instructions I was given were that the tank had to be at least 8" above the OMP, and that I had to block off the inlet in the block.
Would anyone have any experience of these?
How do I block off the hole?
thanks
Dennis

HI,
I have no experiance with your system, but it seems like a good idea...only have to make sure that it is always topped up. The origanal OMP works using a worm and worm wheel gearing. This means.. as far as i know, the front plate may need removing before the OMP can be removed. Can anyone else confirm or elaborate?
