As some might know already it looks like lost my water seals which also rendered my rear rotor non functional anymore last Friday.

Evidance of coolant loss, white smoke on and after startup, rough idle, considerable loss of power and torque, hard start and etc confrims the above. Got a lovely jolt of current as well when disconnectiing the plugs as attempted an engine start with rear and front rotor seperately. Rear rotor, front rotor start and idle/smoke etc similar to as both rotors plugged in.

An import FD L Reg with only like 36,000 miles which was convereted to single turbo just recently and done only about 2000 miles. Running Garrett GT4088 turbo, 60mm wastegate, 1600cc secondary injectors, after market secondary fuel rail, Aeromative fuel pressure regulator, Walbro fuel pump, Koyo radiator, Greddy Style FMIC, Greddy elbow, Greddy BOV, Apexi FC + Commander, etc. Running 1 bar of boost produced 337whp and 297 lb/ft. Main conlucsion to the low power output was due to the big turbo size running on stock engine with no ports.

I now intend to rebuild the engine over the next weeks to get it ready for next summer. After considerable search and reading on the subject beside the advice of many it seems for the Apex seals the options are either OEM 2 piece or ceramic ones. Bearing in mind that I want to build this thing to put out at least 400-450whp. Will the OEM Apex seals be sufficient. The ceramic Apex seals cost like an extra £700-£800 which is considerable amount of money, probably the same amount of money for a standard rebuild kit by it self.

Your input into this will be very much appricated.

i went though nearly the same problem mate,

i went for the 2 piece OEM seals but you do have a few other options with some a bit cheaper

im will be running around 1 bar on my TD06 and my nice new ports :D

Well project Resurrection has started today, lack of proper tools and lightining is making thing way difficult and time consuming.

Engine before when it was sunny few weeks back

Today after 2-3 hours of work and dropping tools inside the engine bay

I\'ll resume work on it tomorrow but doubt I\'ll be able to do much until I get proper jack and axles to lift this thing and remove the under tray to gain access to the gear box and undo the down pipe from the mid section.

karl_tate

just undo the downpipe off the turbo dude.
