Right then guys, I have finally got my Rex. Its a known entity on here, will post some pics soon which should let you all know who\'s it was.

Only issue is it has no reverse gear at the moment.

It is fitted with a short shift kit.

The symptoms, described as best as i can are.

No issue selecting any gear with the clutch depressed, however with the clutch depressed if i try and select reverse gear it feels as if the path of the gearstick is being blocked, there is no crunching noise, there is simply no movement into what you would describe as the reverse gate i guess.

Can move the stick across to the right no problem, but when trying to pull down in order to select reverse she just wont go.

I was wandering what the problem might be? could it be an issue with the short shift kit ? could it be a selector gate problem ? or is it more likely to be a shafted box.

Not having loads of pennies right now i am going to take a look at it myself first, (with some more experienced rex help of course) I want to get the gearlever surround / centre console removed before i get the lads round, so if someone can give me any tips on that as well i would be most grateful.

Cheers Dboy

try putting the standard gear selector in, that way you will know if its the box or short shift kit.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

regarding getting the gear surround out - thats easy - it jus pops up (with a little bit of prying at the corners, perhaps), and you have to then unscrew the various switches etc from the underneath - and thats it.

the center console (radio/heater switches etc) is a bit trickier, as you have to remove the steering wheel, clocks, etc first.  If you have a search around, you should find a couple of threads on how to do it (I did a thread back in may iirc on painting my dash, which links to an excellent post inc pictures on how to remove the dash)
