As i\'m having a rebuild i\'m interested in the benefits of getting the engine balanced. Price is likely to be around the £400 mark.

Anyone else done this? Is it worth doing? Any opinions?

i\'ll be watching this thread,  we had the REW engine balanced thats going in the back of the VX220 but its not running yet so i cant give you an answer.  Thats supercharged and we want 9500 rpm hence the balancing. Look at Kash\'s old dyno sheet with his turbo and see when power dies off, if its lower than 8k then it may not be worth it.  Re Worx swear by it for high power engines.  I was chatting to tim about this today.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

which parts get balenced?

rotor\'s? e-shft?

i would image the main benefit is that you can rev much higher.

But you will need the turbo, porting, clearanced rotors to make the most of it.

btw these a just my opinions after read alot on rx7club

I wont be running higher than standard rpm, not by much anyway.   This is obviously one of the main reasons for needing to get your engine balanced.   The reasons I think I may need to do it are:

  • I am using Rotors from another engine and can not say for sure if they are the same weight
  • I am going to use a lightened flywheel and hence a counter balance from an Auto, this counter balance is obviously not matched to my engine
  • I am putting on Solid Engine Mounts so any inbalance will be felt
  • The car will spend a lot of time on the red line and bouncing off the limiter

Having read quite a lot into this on the RX7 club today these are good reasons to have it done.  If I wasnt having the engine rebuilt it wouldn\'t be worth stripping it just to get it balanced, but as its already it bits it is a sensible thing to do.... apparently  :)

But whether all that is still worth it even though i\'m not going to go above 8k-8.5k rpm is what I would like clarifying?

There are a few more posts over on FDUK about it.  Apparently Max wants to do it to his track car and afaik he is not for higher revs?

sorry if i teaching you to suck eggs...

the rotors are stamped with letters, i think you need to get the letter within 1 of each other. so if you a  have a C rotor you need a B or a D. OR B you will need a A or C

I have solid engine mounts and they do transmit alot of vibration, i would do for poly if you can.

I cant help with the flywheel, sorry

I would talk to Era, he knows best!!!

I have a lightened flywheel - not sure about counterweight....but i don\'t have any running issues or lack of smoothness issues with mine. All my own experience obviously!

my old dyno chart was with the T04e I had... have\'nt put one up with the T60.... I do know with the T60 the power kept coming all the way and over 8k :)

if your not going any higher than the stock rpm rev limit then i would say its dead money and not worth it. the money would be best spent else where.
as hairy hoover has said your rotors are stamped to help verify weights. theres a bit on pineapple racing about it, in the video section.
