To cut a long story short, my ircon appears to have "seized up" Loads of white smoke and buring rubber smell coming from behind the battery ( have already posted this part )

Removed the P/S and A/C belt, checked the pulley\'s and the A/C pulley is locked solid. Got a belt to bypass the aircon pulley and all is good again.

I like to use the in dash A/C button to turn on the fans to cool things down a bit ( running stock ECU ) which still works. Speaking to a guy from Thurmaston ( sorry forgot your name) at Rotorstock and he suggested "disconnecting" the A/C unit. White clip underneath, accessed from underneath the car.

Anyway, can I leave things as they are and continue to use the internal a/c button without causing a  problem? Not really looking to remove the A/C condenser etc so just making sure I\'m not causing myself a problem. Or do I need to disconect the A/C unit. Read that removing the fuse will stop the fans working.

Any help would be appreciated.

Sounds like you\'ve probably had a leak in the system - iirc aircon systems contain a % of lubricant along with the gas.

Lots of people have got rid of their a/c systems so you should be able to pick up a servicable pump on the cheap.

As above - sounds like a leak and then seizure :(

Thanks for the info, and offer of parts SIH.

I think I\'ll go down the removal route, the A/C has never worked since I\'ve had the car ( 2 years ), not in the sense of cooling anyway. Not my daily driver, so for the times that I do drive it, It\'s never been a problem for me. If a little sweaty on the odd ocaision in the summer!

I\'ve only ever used it to put the fans on to lower the water temps when I see the WT gauge rising above 90is ( in traffic etc ) Stock ECU has a fault ( according to Pip @ WGT ) so got another one from Matt on here, just need to get round to fitting it, hence the use of the a/c fan button at the mo.

I read on the forum you can remove all the bits and keep the Rad fans for cooling. So I think I\'ll go down this route. Just checking that I\'m OK driving the car and using the a/c switch at the moment until I get round to removing the main bits ( condensor etc )

All you need to remove it is a belt - it\'s from a Daewoo or something - can\'t remember which :)
Might be a 1.7 deisel Ibiza without aircon or similar, my memory is hazy! If you need a hand let me know and pop over, i\'ll happily lend a hand :)
