I\'ve done a few bits so far

I whipped the Drivers front wing off and i found something to make me cry a little!

Ah well, best get making some plates up.  I use vinyl sticker sheet to make the templates, its got quite a thick backing on and once its cut you can stick it on the steel to make it easy to make the panel

First bit welded in, yup i forgot to turn the gas on for the bottom weld, you can see it gets better for the vertical one

Few more plates and several hours later

One inner wing repaired, sprayed with Zinc Primer, then a thick coat of hammerite
Next was to tackle the job i actually wanted to do in the first place

Cut all the crap out and made up my plates

The lightest skim of wag (i\'m not trying to hide owt)

Rubbed down

Next was to lay some colour down
My prefered weapon of choice is my Sata NR95

Layed on a nice thick coat of filler primer

Flatted it back then gave it a shot of white basecoat as i\'m waiting on my paint to arrive

Done
You can see i\'ve binned the front repeater as well, makes it cleaner looking!
Same to do on the other side now, then the doors to tackle   :-[

Next was to sort out her flacid backend with some new poly bushes, also pulled off the front wing i repaired and threw on a \'glass one from S&D, very impressed with the quality.

Looked at the rear arch as well, had this small hole in there and also the lower part of the rear quarter had rotted away.

Normally i\'d cut out a square of metal and well in a repair, but on stripping the rust back the metal was still thick and in good condition, so i decided to just fill the hole.

You can see my lower quarter repair here, she\'s loads quieter now on the roads as this panel has filled a hole that went straight into the boot, so it was scooping up air and throwing it around the inside of the car

All primed up waiting for paint

Oh, pulled all the carpets up as well, this thing is absolutly immaculate floorpan wise.  All the floors are perfect, the boot is stunning, under the bonnet is great, i\'ve been under her and she\'s been waxoiled from new so its all good down there.  Shame the wings and doors let her down, but once done, she\'ll be proper solid!

My Blue paint finally arrived (you try getting hold of 2k these days) so I gave the new wing a quick shoot over

Decided to tackle the drivers door next as its the worst.
Took a look with it in situe, but decided if def needed to come off

Once off the fun began

This is what I was up against

Cut it out, no mercy

After a few hours welding and grinding

Next up a skim of wag.  Its not surprising a thin sheet held only as the edges warped during welding, hence the filler half way up the doors, still, its only thin...

Primed and back on car awainting paint

Its a shame the front doors and front wings are as bad as they are, underneath is rock solid and mechanically she\'s sound...

A Little more work!
Rushing this bit through slightly as i dont want her covered in Primer for the Retro Cars show this weekend, so i\'ll no doubt be stripping it back at a later date!
Laid some colour down on the rear arch, first attempt at blending in paintwork as i didn\'t want to have to paint the whole rear quarter and its worked out pretty well, just needs a good going over with the G3 in a few days.

I need to get the hammer and dollies out to sort out the distortion on the repaired door skin (due to welding heat), but i have not time, so i\'ll just blow over the door for the show, hopefully it wont be that noticable?

On a mechanical note, she developed an annoying tap in the engine bay the other night.  I thought it was the waterpump so bought on off ebay, but on closer inspection the fan belt was fecked causing the noise.

No problem, just open the boot and delve into the box of genuine spares

Fitted, working - Done!

Oh, this is my daily driver as well :yes

Last bit of work for the show.
Finished the front door.  When I say finished I actually mean, I blew over the door bottom, so if anyone does take a photo or glance at her she\'ll look alright.  Its all gotta be redone properly at a later date!

Check out my warpage, need to sort that

And a side shot, she\'s blue  ;D

I love that original fan belt box, antique Mazda parts are cool. Great project, thanks for the write up.

Since i dont have a clue how the damn thing works, it\'ll be going in stock...

Brett

That\'s easy - it goes around around.  The smaller bit goes around 3 times and the bigger bits only go around once.
